So, today I go to the bank and discover my account is overdrawn. Why is it overdrawn? Because there's a charge from Turbine Inc on my debit card.

Problem is, my LOTRO account hasn't been active for probably close to 2 years, and I've done nothing recently which should have caused it to be re-activated.

Did LOTRO recently have some sort of "come back to the game" special offer that would have caused my account to be reactivated without my consent?

Of course, this has to all come to light on a Saturday when Turbine doesn't have any customer phone support. Grrr...

Yeah...they had a free weekend last week. That shouldn't change billing unless you log in and turn the account back on in the billing section.

I'd have them look a lot further back. My guess is that the account shut off from way back didn't take for some reason.

You're right. Turns out they never did actually cancel the account, and I just didn't notice the $30 charge every three months. The only reason I noticed it this time is because it was poorly timed and caused an overdraft.

Grrr. Very frustrating to realize I've been spending $120 a year on something I don't use for at least two years and there's nothing I can do about it. I know I canceled the account, but I can't find the confirmation email of the cancellation (I usually only save such things if they contain login information or some such) so I'm pretty much SOL on getting any of that back.

They did, however, refund the April charge, and since they did that, the bank will reverse the overdraft charges. So that's something, at least.

It was only $30 every three months. *shrug* Until it happened that the timing was poor and it caused an overdraft, I just never noticed the money was missing. I confess I AM bad about reviewing my statements. Usually I pay cash for everything and just keep a small "cushion" in the bank for rare times when I need something but don't have cash on hand, so usually all my statements show is the occasional deposit and ATM withdrawal.
