Yeah, I broke down and finally bought it. It's better than I thought it would be, but the first twenty hours are entirely too linear. It may make sense given the story, but it still bothers me. I'm one of those people that loves to explore a game world. I spent so much time exploring the Capitol Wasteland in Fallout 3 that I was level 30 before I even bothered to finish the main story line. Anyway, I've only been playing XIII on the weekends, so I haven't been speeding through it, which helps alleviate some the games more annoying bits. Mostly, the run here, fight that, watch this, fight this, run there, and repeat nature of the game play.
Maybe it's just me and my habit of stopping now and then to level up a bit, but I really haven't had much trouble with any of the fights so far. Just need to pay attention to character's HP and switch to a Tanking/Healing Paradigm (I usually go with SEN, MED, COM to keep the Stagger bar going) and things tend to go smoothly.

Chapter 11 is awful grindy. Or maybe its because I found a little area where I can rake in like 14000~ish CP per like five~ten minutes. I'm sure its unnecessary, but I'm pretty **** about leveling as it is, from years of abuse role playing games.
Sazh can do no wrong, except naming his kid. Seriously.
I found a little spot in Chapter 11 where I can get 300k CP an hour. There's a group of two Hoplites and three Cryohedrons that give 5,110 CP that takes fifteen to forty-five seconds to kill depending on whether or not you can get a Preemptive Strike on them. A fifteen second walk down and back the hall and they respawn. I farmed the hell out of the place and now all of my characters have their level four Role Crystals in all three of their main jobs without missing a single side crystal along the way. I'm thinking about staying there a bit longer and capping all of their crystals for their crappy jobs (the one's with five or six crystals per level), but those things get expensive.
