I guess I'll be waiting for the PS3 version. Because, a crazy awesome generous friend of mine just up and bought me one. Smiley: jawdrop

I had preordered it and wasn't expecting it til Tomorrow, but here I am playing it. Only about 20 minutes in, it's fun, but I really hate not moving my character. The battle set up just makes me feel like I should be walking around and positioning myself for better attacks.

I've only got about 4 hours in so far beacuse my wife claimed the ps3 but I like it so far. It has been absurdly easy but my wife's logged about 12 hours and said it gets a bit harder later on.

....and I like redhead's austrailian accent and ffxii

Check out this article, I think it sums up what I've been reading about it, and what I've discovered so far.

Still love the game Smiley: smile

From the article you just link:

Quote:
Once I stopped expecting the game to be Final Fantasy XII (that's '12', the last in series) with prettier graphics, I relaxed into the focused-progress approach and found it almost liberating. Instead of killing time poking around lifeless villages with zombie-dumb citizens and generic shops, I was hurtling along at warp speed, grappling with increasingly elaborate battle tactics, no two enemy encounters alike

That's pretty much how I feel about the game after 6 hours. I love it!

The combat system is fantastic and the action is pretty much non-stop.

~4 hours in and the only complaint I have is Vanille's voice. Is she supposed to be British or what?

Everything else gets a Smiley: thumbsup from me. The game is absolutely gorgeous.

I'm enjoying the game so far, though it does have some serious faults.

1 - WTF is up with making up wait hours before giving us commands other than 'fight' (and sometimes AoE fight)? If you're going to make the intro/tutorial section so long at least make the battles more interesting.

2 - Can we please walk more than 10 feet or fight more than one battle without a 5 minute break for cut scenes?

3 - Stop putting the 'new stuff' icon up in the menu EVERY SINGLE TIME I get an item. Even if it's items I've already seen before I still get the icon EVERY SINGLE TIME! If you're going to do it that way at least give me a 'mark everything read' command.

4 - Could they possibly have picked a worse voice actress for Vanille? I haven't heard voice acting that bad in a really long time.

Well, it does fit the storyline, and since you made it that far I figure you know why.

And I did think the battles were pretty interesting, there really were not that many battles between beginning and skill tree unlock.

She sounds more like an American who forgets that she's supposed to have a bad accent.

You can skip fights, just use your Deceptisol shroud and skip some fights. They aren't really required since there isn't any Exp early on and you can't grind or anything. Personally I enjoy it, but I can see where it would get monotonous for someone.

I don't mind Vanille, but man Hope is a *****. I want to throw him off into empty space every time he whines about something.

Australian voice actress trying to sound like Minnie Mouse w/ translated stereotypical Japanese dialogue...

makes me want stab myself in the ears

Outside of vanille/hope, the constant hand holding/dumbing down of the game play (which I'm sure gets better, but not fast enough for my taste), and lack of exploration, I am liking it so far (got ~4hrs in last night). It has that still has that "you're a tiny piece of something epic" feel to it.

I started having fun after 4 hours or so.

I want to throw him off the cliffs for being a whiny little emogit that gives Squall a run for his money. I want to punch Vanille in the throat so she stumbles off the same cliff so I don't have to hear her death cries.

Admittedly, I'm liking Sazh, if only because he reminds me of Roger Murtaugh from Lethal Weapon. Snow and Lightning (keep in mind, I mean this in an "extremely vaguely" sort of way) remind me of Locke and Celes, and as of right now I'm not sure how to feel about that.

I have a feeling that this is a game that people will end up either loving or hating, and that is highly dependent on whether they could get through the beginning or not. In trying to see what the end of the game is like without getting hit with spoilers, it sounds like it's pretty open at the end, like you can keep going on after the final boss is beat. I could be misinterpreting that because I really tried to stay away from any spoilers, but if that is the case I like that, since you can continue working on your character after the main story is finished.

I don't even have the game yet and I'm hating these names.

Their names are actually Snow Villiers, Oerba Dia Vanille, Hope Estheim, Sazh Katzroy, and Oerba Yun Fang. Lightning is just Lightning Smiley: grin

One thing I do like is they took the time to animate for the English words, rather than just dubbing over the Japanese so it looks like they're actually saying what you hear.

Actually, Lightning is just her codename. Her real first name is anybody`s guess like Snow says.

Or did they just do a loose enough translation so that it would match? Smiley: tongue

Somebody's never played Kingdom Hearts II. After the number of hours I logged into that game, I gave up on trying to keep my crap unmarked. You keep your sanity that way.

One thing I find weird is that of all the Final Fantasy games I've played with voice acting, I don't recall any Aussies. And then in this game we have two.

I like him too for the exact same reason. This first time that he said "I'm getting too old for this" put that image in my mind, and it stuck.
