Well, I just downloaded and played the demo and if you replaced Dante with Kratos, and Hell with the Underwold, you wouldn't know you weren't play God of War. The game play is practically identical.

You have:

  • A heavy slow attack
  • A light fast attack
  • Can double jump
  • Can string to together attacks for combos
  • Dodge with the left stick, move with the right.
  • Fill up a rage meter that you activate by pressing the two shoulder buttons.
  • There are green and purple fountains that you tap B to use to fill your health and Mana.
  • To upgrade your attacks and learn new combos you collect souls from defeated enemies to spend as you see fit.
  • You even get magic spells to play with.
  • On top of all of that, you even get the mini game random button combo finishing moves on larger mobs.

  • Basically, if you've played God of War, you'll feel right at home in Hell. The graphics are impressive, and the game definitely earned it's M rating with graphic violence and nudity. One bit I liked was that flashback scenes are done in a rather interesting anime style, which is also pretty much what they did in the first God of War game.

I rather liked it and will probably pick up the game when it's released, even if it is just a Christian version of GoW.

I played it and while I liked it despite being a clone, it's coming out at the wrong time. Darksiders and Bayonetta next week with Mass Effect 2, No More Heroes 2, FFXIII, and God of War 3 all coming out around the first quarter. It's most likely going to be a title I pick up at $20 during a Toys R Us B2G1 sale.

Bayonnetta demo didn't impress me. It was too button mashy, and it was way too easy to just stand back and strafe and shoot. DI is basically going to be the GoW for people that don't want to buy PS3.

True I can see it being a nice replacement. Unfortunately, having all 3 means I don't need a 2nd best.

I'm excited for Bayonetta just because it's the spiritual successor of DMC and has the same amount of depth plus more.

I was booting up Lost Odyssey and saw this. I think I'll download it just to test right now.

    edit:
Played it through, definitely fun. Maybe not 59.99 fun, but fun.
Hearing Death beg for his life is great.

Dumb question I know, but can you pick up the demo from the PS store?

Yes. The Playstation Store has had it for at least 3 weeks now where 360 owners had to wait until last week for the demo.

Not God of War specifically, really. Both have incredibly generic mechanics.

    Sweet, thanks.

this seems to be one of the filler games for peeps who enjoy GoW games until GoW3 comes out.

I'm more excited about Darksiders next week (Tuesday). Looks like a really fun game ^-^

I decided to try Bayonetta as well.
That game is seriously just "mash Y and B"

There is just too much on the screen at any given time to see your character, let alone plan out any thoughtful sequence of combos.
