This is not the older, scruffy guy I imagined.

Maybe he's a mechanic.

He also has the amazing split ******** in XI that they never bothered to fix.

Will XIII's Cid command a fleet of airships? Because that would be rather cool.

Specifically, Cid was the Bastokan engineer who first converted one of the Bastok navy's boats over to an airship during/after the Crystal War. Jeuno actually maintains a full sized fleet of war airships, in addition to the 4 ships that run the schedules from Jeuno to the cities.

Later on in the CoP storyline, Cid allows you to name an experimental airship with autopilot. Unfortunately, you abandon it in Tavnazia, and after that your own personal airship is only good for ferrying you to and from {sea}.

I am INCREDIBLY excited for XIII. I don't have a PS3 or an HDTV. I will have both for when 13 comes out.

I can't say I'm really excited. I was a huge fan of Square back in the day (FF6, Chrono Trigger, FF7, etc.), but their last few games just didn't do it for me. FFXII was especially disappointing. I'll be watching the reviews when this finally comes out.

Personally I liked XII. I thought it was done really well. The only thing I didn't like was the license system. What the heck was that?! I understand trying new creative progressive systems but come on now. The battle system was kinda nifty though, I liked the customization so all 3 characters could fight in realtime. Story was good, extra side stuff was better than it's been in a while.

XIII though I'm viewing with trepidation... its looking a little too X-2... (pop target girls culture)

Me too, but I won't be happy about it. I haven't liked the Final Fantasy franchise since 7, but 4 through 6 have put such an impression on me that I can't resist the allure no matter how much I try.

FFXII's story was good, don't get me wrong. I've never had a complaint about SE's plots or graphics. My issue with FFXII was not being able to get my characters to do what I wanted. I forget which battle it was (I think it had a big turtle, wasn't too far in), but I kept getting killed because whoever I had as the healer kept trying to melee with a boss. I kept trying for a good week, and finally just gave up. When I fail because of something I'm doing wrong, that's one thing. If I fail because the game mechanics don't play nice, that's something different.

I may be an old-school curmudgeon, but I miss turn-based combat systems. I understand SE wanting to keep the attention of today's twitchy ADD gamers, but I like to take my time in battle. If I want an action-RPG, I'll play Diablo or Titan's Quest or Fable...

Why didn't you just, like, turn off his "Attack" Gambit...? Problem solved.

Though, if the boss was casting Berserk on them, that would make them attack and not heal. Which would have been solved by a "Target:Any" or "Target:Berserk" ---> "<insert item/spell>" gambit.

The system was NOT hard to use. I just got irritated that you couldn't "save" templates. Annoying to have to switch back whenever you killed a boss.

Part of the reason you don't get Turn-based games anymore is that it is a waste of resources, and basically means innovation stops. We've seen jsut about every TB system we can imagine without adding time into it.

XIII DOES use a turn-base system. You just, from what I understand, only control one character at a time (dunno if the rest have AI or are programmable, but I'm pretty sure you can switch them). And you line up skills (or activate them slowly, as you want them, if you don't want to line them up.

I really like that SE has chosen to make this game difficult. Whenever I play TB games, I tend to be surfing the web at the same time. Like, battle animations are nice... the first 200 times you see them.

Now, the fights are faster, though still menu-based, and you get healed to full after each one, because they expect you to take a LOT of damage. Thank you, god, for a game that may actually hold my interest to it, rather than my PC.

I never finished XII. I will be looking forward to see if this improves upon the last couple though (X-2 I played through twice and it still was fairly mediocre). I do admit that FFX holds a place in my heart for being the first FF I ever played (a little late to the party), but after going back and playing the old ones I definitely have high hopes for this one.

Now that the game is out, here is what my research has uncovered thus far:

The game is 38gb. One would say that is impressive, until it is discovered that of that massive amount of data, only eight of it is actual game data. Meaning the other 30gb is nothing more than cinematics. Some people might enjoy that; After all that means its going to be a lot, and pretty damn high quality. For comparison's sake, a 75 minute 1080p Bluray film is roughly 5gb.

The game itself is ... "as linear is a piece of string." The first six hours worth of maps is a single interminable path punctuated by cutscenes and unavoidable mob encounters.

That's a witty spoiler tag for images. Click it to see the map.

Not a town to be seen; In fact shops are handled at the Save Points apparently.

Not going into story or combat itself, as I don't want to look into it in case I might want to play, but over all I can't say I'm at all impressed.

Pretty much what I've expected unfortunately. I wonder how long this game's main story lasts, if it's anything like FFXII, it should be done in about 20 hours or so.

I have always enjoyed the cinematics though, having 30gb's worth of it does sound interesting.
