Have you played it? You really should.

It's a randomly generated action platformer with about a bazillion and one random events, treasure, powerups, and challenges. Be warned, you will die... a lot. Learning about some of the less frequent challenges is often humorous, because of the sudden unexpected death. Sometimes you may want to pass up rooms you know will be difficult based on the surrounding terrain.

One quibble with it, I wish there was a way to recharge your hearts. So far I've not run in to a health replenishing item, so it's four hits and game over. But again, most of the fun of this game is in the discovery. I played for nearly an hour before ever reaching level five, only to find that the game changes things up over the long term as well.

Now, to finally go about installing the drivers needed to use a PS3 controller on my PC. This game is worth the trouble.

Does that ruin the game for you?

I like to think of it as saving the Marilyn Monroe drag queen. It at least makes it palatable.

Awesome game. It was amusing to kill the shopkeep with a shotgun and steal all the items, only to find him waiting at the end of the next level.

You can get some decent items from sacrificial altars, but I'd advise against sacrificing the damsels, since the health you get from them is more important. It's also amusing that when there's a girl you can buy a kiss from (read: buy a health point), she's under a red light. Smiley: lol

I'm pretty terrible at it still, and I prefer to start from the beginning to save up cash and get items instead of taking the warp door to level 5. In any case, it's provided me with some free entertainment, which is always appreciated.

I built the level 9 shortcut, then kinda put the game down. That level set is difficult as all get out. most of the levels are bottomless, and you really have to take your time dangling from every ledge like a treasure hunting ******* praying you can let go, and meet with solid ground that won't injure you. There's a lot of faith jumps in the third bracket of levels. I'll probably putz around with it every so often for the next year or so, and wind up finishing it eventually.

Over all, an awesome game. It's kept me entertained longer than most blockbuster hits that I've played recently.

Sacrifice enough damsels and you get a neat cup.

This will solve your HP problem.

I made it to level 13 once, only thanks to a jetpack. It was a flare level, I walked about three squares left, and was killed by a bee spitting mummy.

I loled.

How many levels are there?

Sidenote: I like listening to the title music while I do other things.

Well, I made it to the jungle level. Twice! Then died immediately each time. I seem to be running into a binary gameplay algorithm though. Each further level I progress takes longer and longer due to having to play through all the old levels again...

So, to cut to the quick, no matter how good you think you are at Spelunky, you won't be this good.

I never have enough money. It's always 65k-100k, and I usually only have 20k-30k at best by the time I see the guy.

You give him your money, and it goes towards the cost. So if it starts at 100k and you give him 30k, the next time it should be 70k total remaining.

Think of the cost as a debt to pay off. You only have to reach a new bracket once, then on every successive pass through to those levels (5,9,13) you will see the shortcut guy, give him whatever gold you have on you whenever you pass him, and you will slowly pay for the shortcut. I think they're priced at 100k 200k and 300k for each. I finally built the first shortcut when I hit about 200 deaths, now, at about 500 deaths, I've built the second.

Oh ok, so the cost doesn't get reset every time you die.

That seems much more manageable...
