Game concept idea involving petsFollow

I've been thinking a lot lately about games that involve summoning monsters to fight along side you-- be it Pokémon or Final Fantasy or various MMOs that have pet jobs.

Lately I've been playing through the whole Kingdom Hearts series and I'm currently on KH2. One of the things I've noticed are frequent instances of bad guys calling out hoards of enemies for you to fight, or to fight each other with.

Where, outside of an RTS, has a player ever been able to do something like this? How great would it be to have a game where your success depends on the management and growth of multiple "pets?"

Surely I am missing something here. There must be something like this already.

You can also play Titan Quest and build a summoner.

When i last played (a ways into the game, but not nearly 'done') i had a massive elemental giant who was so goddamn awesome, 3 wolves and a Nymph doing my bidding. Personally I had an aura buff, sat back and casted a plague spell that spread and weakened enemies, and shot stuff with my staff. Of course there wasnt much management involved, you just set them to agressive and let em go nuts.

Also the pets arent worth a damn until you beat the game on normal difficulty and then unlock Epic.

I still vote this game as the best dungeon crawler out there.

In Diablo II you could have a massive army as a Necromancer. You didn't really manage the pets beyond bringing them to life, but you could in fact have an army.

Although it took forever to kill anything.

Overlord looks pretty awesome. It's almost spot on for what I was going for. I've played Spore though, not quite what I had in mind.

I wish there was some way I could make my own game that didn't suck horribly Smiley: frown

Meh, kinda... Pikmin was just control though...their stats never changed, you didn't train them, equip them, etc. Just grew more and ordered them around and used an easy color-coding system to make decisions.

I think I know what Kuwoobie is getting at, I'm much the same way. I'd love a game that was all based around pet management, control, growth and customization. Spore is more like a simulation than this, Pikmin has the above reasons, etc. Like an entire game, where you just summoned, equipped, grew the pets. I have yet to play Overlord, I don't think my computer could, but I'd really, really want to some time. I can only hope a friend buys it though, and I play it there. It looks like what I'm talking about and I think Kuwoobie means.

The same feeling here. Some games I'd downright love if I could just make them all up - problem is it will never happen and it probably wouldn't sell well...games have to apply to a broad range of audience in order to hope to be successful.

Okay

The entire concept of Devil Survivor (and I'd assume most of shin megami tensai)

You breed, buy, fuse, and pick abilities for, demons and angels. You level them up and build statpoints which are banked for the next fusion. Each PC is in a team with two demon minions.
