I have both and all I know is my 360 plays Mass Effect. For whatever reason it won't work in my PS3.

Have you tried getting a PS3 version of the game?

So, I only read the first half of the first page, but I'll add some points I didn't see there.

When approaching things from the "I have neither and am going to buy one" mind set (which I am in), the PS3 is VERY attractive.

Why?

Because most of the best 360 games have, or are being, ported. So you don't feel like you are really losing game selection. Sure, you may not be able to play, say, Halo 3. But meh. It's a good game, but it isn't awesome. My brother bought a 360 last month, and I'm already bored of Halo online (haven't done campaign), and I don't really like CoD WaW/ MW2 (blasphemy, I know. I think MW2 is a beautiful game though). [EDIT] And just to add, it isn't burnout. I'm only home certain weekends, since I'm at school. But when he asks me if I want to play Co-Op for CoD/Halo, I find I just often don't want to. I can't remember ever really feeling like that, even with Gamecube's Melee/Kart. They can be fun, yeah, when I'm in the mood though. [/EDIT]

Plus, I have seen some really great things about the upcoming PS3 releases. And it has had a bunch of solid ones in the past year. While not all are to everyone's tastes, LBP is certainly impressive. Ratchet and Clank looks good. MGS4 (I'm not a fan of the series, but it is definitely a big pro for many people). FF13 is coming out, as well as 13V (I can't remember which of 13 or 13v is gonna be 360, but you have to wait longer). And the Drake games certain look awesome.

And some of the best games are on both consoles, like Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect.

Considering I can get it cheaper, don't have to pay to play (or for a wireless adapter), get a Blu-Ray player, game selection that keeps getting better and better, don't have to worry about RRoD (I WON'T buy a 360 as long as this is an issue) and will have access to two of my favorite game series when they are released (Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts)...

The decision, for me, was easy. If you REALLY love Halo or some of the games that the 360 has exclusive that just won't be ported, it may be harder. I could live without them. Again, just my opinion, but the PS3 seems like the clear winner for most people.

I'm pretty sure that Mass Effect is still not on the PS3. Windows or Xbox only.

You're right. I thought I had read that they were bringing it to the PS3, but I can only find rumors now that I look.

Nothing about the PS3 excites me other than the chance that I might want to play FF14 on it over buying another PC. Depending on a few things:

1. Can my current PC play 14 when it comes out
2. What the price difference would be by then between a PS3 and a new PC
3. If I ever buy an 1080p tv, otherwise blueray can suck my balls
4. If monsters spawn faster on PS3 than they do on PC like with PS2 and FFXI
5. If PS3 get's some other games I care about other than FFXIV and Gran Tourismo...which is never coming out anyway lol.

I just don't want to play the following:
Metal Gear Retirement Home
Sock Puppet Bonanaza
Uncharted: The Adventures of larry Croft
Interactive Movie Experience Asian Fight Scene Fun Time
lolKill Zone
Pilotwings EXTREME EDITION

With my ****** TV the PS3's graphics are pointless until an upgrade and outside of two games that don't exist yet it doesn't have a single game that I give a **** about that isn't multiplatform.

But this isn't a post comparing PCs to PS3s, it's about PS3s and 360s.

But getting a better computer is FAR more expensive than buying a console. And upgrading can be as well (and may not be possible). So it's much harder to compare them, as PC prices will be dynamic.

But but but... if you turn 360 degrees, you're looking the same way as when you started. You mean 180 degrees but that doesn't work, does it?

Does this mean PS3 fanbois are dumb?

Yes i didn't mean to derail the topic of disscusion it's just that for me, purchasing a PS3 would come down to that very specific set of circumstances. I allready have a 360 which is something I should have noted, I bought the 360 when the PS3 was far more expensive and I mostly wanted to play cross platform games like ffxi, rock band, GH, CoD and a few xbox only titles liek the halo series.

With the pricing they have today and IF I had a nicer tv that would actually utilize the blueray I would probably buy a PS3 instead since most of the games I play ARE cross platform. I would just pound out halo games on a buddies xbox. In fact I would probably pound out PS3 games on my buddies PS3 since it barely sees the light of day for him...it's just that I don't feel excited to play any of them.

lol, I was thinking this as well. They get around that minor detail with the meme gif of M. Jackson moonwalking away.

It was originally just an awesome troll statement; and some people would be like you walk past it and then you're walking away, or you turn to the right or left 90 degrees, and then turn the other way 270 degrees. But the MJ moonwwalk was by far the best explanation ever. Smiley: lol

And yeah, you can't really compare consoles to PC. You also can't really build a PC that can actually be good for 300 dollars. Also, mgs4+mgo is awesome and you want to play it >:O

Maybe not, but if you've got even a semi recent pc you could probably do some upgrades for a much lower amount, ive noticed my 8800GT has been doing fairly great, and it shouldnt be to expensive now.

Just got to learn how to tweak game settings.

.. <.< That makes no sense. You can't just ignore the price of the thing you're upgrading from.

Plus, then you are making the assumption that the upgrade would make a difference in the first place. If you have a 32 bit system, you'd need to upgrade that to use more RAM. If your motherboard is older, you aren't going to get as large a boost from a better graphics card.

Plus, if you use a gaming notebook, you can't upgrade at all. And you might need to completely switch cases with a desktop, to fit the new cards.

And, like Dead said, you can't just ignore the cost of the initial system. The discussion basis for the 360 vs PS3 is as they currently stand. Comparing that to a "PC upgrade" rather than a whole new PC is like comparing the PS3 to just the cost of a few 360 upgrades (wireless, headset, HD-DVD player and HDD for instance).

It just isn't an argument with equal parameters. It doesn't tell you the pros or cons of the systems themselves.

Plus, you will only need 1 system for the full 10 year span (assuming they actually follow said plan). You WILL need to upgrade your PC fairly regularly (at least every 2-3 years) to keep up with game requirements. That makes the cost much higher in the long run.
