Hi everyone, im looking at returning to SWG after a couple of years away. Last time i played i was less than impressed with the changes. Just wondering if anything has been changed. Also how is the PvP in this game? is it openworld?

thx for your time :)

I think the game has moved along nicely although if PvP is your thing I would probably wait until the GCW update has been fleshed out.

im in two minds about it really, granted the playerbase is slightly improved now that server consolidation has taken place. the battlegrounds idea was a long time in coming, but necessary. still though i think the pvp definitely needs a lot more work, the battle of the buffs situation is more than a little ludicrous. i dont know, personally i think time is running out and sony arent putting in enough effort to improve the game. maybe its time to call it a day :/

they kind of fuctup pvp with the instances, it feels like your just in this carebear world where you sign up to visit an arcade to fight a staged battle in some obscure corner of the galaxy, caged off like some kind of freak for wanting to fight another player, instead of a galactic civil war. if they would allow us to place bounties on ourselves, which they don't, so we can fight outside of our cage and not have to farm players for weeks to get a good bounty. i tried to kill my alt and then log back in to place a bounty on myself but lamely would not work. what a boring assd game this is. i hope that GCW update actually makes it better instead of worse like this last PvP "update" has done

I think anything that takes PvP out of Restuss is a good idea, I am hoping they can bring back "World wide" PvP.

world pvp is what SWG offered that many other MMOs do not. this instance stuff ruins immersion. the reason galactic pvp doesnt happen any more is because they failed to add incentives to PvP outside the instances, while adding huge incentives to pvp in the instances.

we all know world pvp was hit hard by restuss, even when the game was in the early NGE form it was, there were big fights still in ME and theed that died when restuss launched and all the shinies it had to offer.. but there was nothing more cooler than an iconic shootout in the mos eisley cantina, or saber fight at theed SP, instead of these pre arranged group duels, you had to deal with other variables like suprise and chaos of unexpected reinforcements, which there is little of in prearranged pvp.

aside from pvp kinda sucking right now the other parts of the game IMO sound awesome. (i thinking of resubbing joining a guild and actually trying the social part, i can get my pvp fix on XBOX i guess but i really do miss playing with/against more than 23 other ppl. i should have bought a PS3 because mag will be a semi MMOFPS at 256)

especially for a social player theres tons of group content constantly being added in SWG, but if your looking for mainly a PvP game like i was this doesn't deliver to well. i thought server transfer would fix it for me but i transfered to bria then it sorta died

world pvp has been on a downward spiral since the CU/NGE, not that it was perfect before, the Imps had too much of an advantage with those at-st's, what with gank squads hanging around anchorhead just waiting for some rebel to try and have a go back... but.. even so.. it was actually fun then too.

I agree that the worst possible thing they could do is add a "Free for all" style PvP system that just encourages people to hang around looking for cheap kills against those who can least fight back which is why the TEF was removed.

I am very much for world wide PvP (aka non-instanced PvP) and as far as PvE goes I would like to see the "On Leave" option removed so that your faction actually mattered.

.. on a side note, its not forced pvp, after all, you dont have to choose to be imp or reb, you can remain neutral etc. if you just want to pve..

What I was told is that players will not be forced into pvp even if they choose a side. I think the general feeling is the "on leave" status is going to go away for the most part, it will probably become a temporary status when your killed by the opposing faction. I personally agree with that change if it occurs, and I am 95% marked as a combatant (only time I am not is when I am running instances).

i thought the CU was ok though, except the levels. those sucked. the CU fixed pistoleer and smuggler kind of which were both riddled with redundant specials that got fixed like lastditch which had the potential to 1 shot kill ppl under very small circumstances. But it could also mess up a jedi real good plus feign death and jedi were still hard to get or w/e,. but lastditch was making them cry i miss lastditch alot. a smug would just be getting the crap beat out of him and at the last bit of health smug would suddenly blow them away with a single pistol shot. they had lastditch in preCU but it was boring it just got spammed as the main attack.

i would take back CU over nge or preCU but w/e.
