FYI, Steam has Dragon Age 25% off for until sometime Friday morning. $37.49 for the standard version and $48.74 for the deluxe.

I usually have Alistair with "self: any=> Threaten" & "Enemy (Attacking Mage) Taunt" when in tank mode.

I also was able to bed Leliana, but she made me choose between her & Morrigan.

Don't hate the playa, hate the game!

So it's a step down to MMO quality then? Damn.

No, DA:O is better than an MMO. The characters in your party actually have meaningful dialogue.

Sounds like someone has no friends

that play an MMO and that they engage with on a meaningful level.

False alarm.

On play through number 3 now. I have done a sword/board Tank, an Arcane Warrior/Mage and now I am doing a rogue duelist/assassin. Holy smokes rogues put out massive single target DPS, especially if you get the Dex hot patch. It's fun trying different endings and seeing what happens with different companions in your party.

This game is one of my all time fav's now for single player.

So I just began playing this for a couple days ago, and I haven't gotten very far since I only play it for an hour or two after my kid is asleep at night. I'm trying to get up the tower to light the beacon right now. I keep getting my *** handed to me on normal mode, and I think it's because I'm not quite understanding the best way to configure tactics yet. My team keeps haring off in various directions and not focusing on one mob of my choosing.

Anyone know a link to a good tutorial on tactics?

Edit: Also forget Alastair, I want Duncan. Can I have him?

That's a solid no on Duncan. Alistair is actually a pretty amusing fellow to have around especially once you pick up Morigan. As far as tactics go, it depends on your party setup, so you'll need to give a bit more information to get a helpful answer.

There are some generic tactics you can set that will kind of autofill whatever abilities are available. Set that those on your character, Alistair, & the two temporary NPCs for now. Set Alistair as your tank & either DD or cast magic.

Or turn down the difficulty.

Yeah I might have to go easy mode, at least until I can get the hang of the tactics thing. Because this is pretty much not feeling recreational right now.

:( Damn, I really, really wanted to seduce Duncan.

Parts of the game can be made easier by having your party wait in a safe area and thinning down a couple of enemies using ranged attacks.

The hardest parts of Dragon Age, I've found, are the areas where massive amounts of bad guys take on your party of 4. My first play through, on normal. I played as a rouge & didn't get Morrigan cone of cold until almost the end of the magi tower. Suffice to say, that tower, with the desire demon's & their armies of templars, proved incredibly difficult.

2nd play through on difficult, went mage, & had no issues.

However on 2nd play through I'm using mods & those armies of archers are now quite tough with their AoE stuns.

Mages seem to be fairly overpowered in this game.

The fact that I have turned my mage into a tank on Hard difficulty without any problems using Arcane Warrior is a good example of this.

Relevant link is relevant. I don't know about spending forty dollars for an add on though.

I totally fail at setting these tactics commands. I try to set them so that my others are assisting my controlled character, but my ranged keep charging in to melee even though all the tactics stuff has them using ranged abilities. Again, if someone has a link to a tutorial, I would be grateful; my Google-Fu is weak.

Set them to cautious or defensive, that will keep them from running after the enemies.

Here is a link to all threads for NPC tactics on Gamefaqs.

thank you for the link, will start reading now.

Another question, probably regarding something completely stupid and self-evident I have missed. Per the advice of a friend, I enabled auto-pause at the start of combat, in order to try to queue up initial attacks for each toon. But when I'm about halfway done flipping through the toons trying to queue their attacks, my mouse turns into a bulls-eye icon and I'm suddenly no longer able to change toons until after I unpause. So when I unpause, I'm not even in control of the toon I want to be controlling and end up fumbling around for the first few seconds trying to get back on that toon. What is that about?

What platform?

And yes, I will get the expansion. I like this game.

id imagine PC since there is a mouse.

If the mouse is a bullseye it means you need to select a target for the ability you chose, because you dont have a suitable target selected.

Thanks! I think I was just assuming they were all on a single target, which in retrospect is silly. For some reason I'm just not grokking the UI with this game.

Wha? DX10 and 11 should cover all DX9 things shouldn't they?

They should, but even if they didn't, I had DX9 installed on Vista for the longest time, so I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Make sure you have Vista's SP 2 installed on the PC. DX 10 only works on DX 10 games, Microsoft removed backwards compatibility for that version. Smiley: oyvey SP 2 adds DX 11 support for Vista and DX 11 is backwards compatible with DX 9 and lower games.
