Anyone heard about this one? A friend of mine has been looking forward to it... seems to be similar to Fallout (3, maybe the others as well?), RTS + RPG action in a desert/wasteland type setting. It has a 4-player co-op option as well though, which looks pretty exciting I guess. I also think there will be a lot more weapon options (to be precise, there are exactly 18 million of them) than in Fallout.

Thoughts? Opinions? Random comments? I may pick it up next month if I continue to hear good things after it is released.

one of the dudes on the idle thumbs podcast played through the pc version single player and was not impressed. one of the bosses was just sitting in the middle of a room, wow-style, and he unloaded on it for two minutes and it never moved.

i'd be much more exited for id's rage, if i had a system to play it on.

It's probably closer to Diablo 2 than Fallout. All I hear is the appeal with the game is the randomly generated loot. With the steam deal, you can get the game for $33.75 if you buy it with 3 other people. But even at that price, the game has never really been a must have. It doesn't help that Gearbox developed the game.

I am unfamiliar with Gearbox (at least by name). What else have they done?

I can understand your trepidation, but I'm not really worried. I also don't care for the WW2 genre but since this game doesn't really fall into that category, I'll keep an open mind.

I've been playing it on PC for a couple of days.
Didn't expect them to work the whole, "Go kill 6 of these and come back. Now go kill 5 of these. Now go find 7 of these." thing into it, but I think they've done a good job with it so far.
Sometimes the AI gets pretty dumb. A number of bad guys won't pursue you at all, or will just stand there and let you shoot them. I've found a couple of spots where you can get stuck and pretty much have to close the game and start it back up.

On a positive note, I do like the game over all. Combat is mostly FPS like. I've only played one class so far, siren, but the skills do seem to add a nice RPGish type feel to it. They give you access to vehicles pretty early on, so you don't have to spend a lot of time running back and forth. I really like the graphics too. The pencil shading effects on some of the textures give it a hand drawn type look. Almost like in Valkyria Chronicles, but not quite the same.

I've yet to play it with anyone else. I'm a little apprehensive to hop into a game with someone else. I usually set my game to open public, but haven't had anyone join in yet. I'd imagine playing it with someone else would make it that much more fun. I have a couple of RL friends who are on the fence in getting it.

I'm gonna get it next week (assuming my desktop is back up and working by then), and I will arrange to do a multiplayer game with you and another friend that has the game (and maybe a 4th if there's anyone else we know with it).

Its pretty fun playing with other people (have about 12 hours put into a 3 player game and a 2 player game) as liong as your playing with people who wont try and steal loot on you.

though the loot is still somewhat competitive, but if were not gonna use something well try and share it.

I like the nice variety of weapons, its almost like they made a ton of little different parts and accessories for the different gun types, and threw them in a randomizing blender, helps to keep teh gameplay from getting boring when you constantly have weapons that play differently.( like the shotgun i found that shot mini rockets, the shotgun thats shoots a wave of shots, machine gun that shoots 4 rounds at a time, or the machine gun where the bullets spiral when they come out)

better than a new thread right?

A friend of mine visited the area last week and we got together a couple times to play this game, and I have to say it was an absolute blast. I went out and bought my own copy for 360 today. The weapons are very fun. I found a level 2 pistol called 'The Clipper' that had fire damage and it was so powerful I used it up until level 18 or so. There is an 'elephant gun' that does massive damage, uses sniper rounds but doesnt have a scope. Also the first major boss you fight drops a shotgun with zero accuracy and a ton of damage+knockback. A great choice for melee combat. I ended up having an awesome SMG with exploding rounds that totally lit that boss up and he wasnt much of a challenge sadly.

Ive played the Berserker and the Siren so far. I kinda nubbed up the berserker but both classes are quite unique and fun.

Me and my brother are both currently obsessed with Borderlands at the moment. I've got a 27 Soldier, and he a 28 Hunter. He began as Siren but switched around level 9, because he just did not like Siren. So far we've done the entire game except for 2 quests in co op, and it's very rewarding.

A very unique, very well-crafted game that deserves a lot of credit. Definitely worth picking up, and having MMO background (WoW, EQ, etc.) really helps in your questing.

Here is my spec. http://www.borderlandsthegame.com/skilltree/roland/#01500200050500500000000

My roommates and I have been following this game for 20 yearsplaying this game as well. Currently running both a mid-teens Hunter and Siren(the latter I play only in multiplayer with my roommate's Brick. Rather entertaining game, despite being an FPS on a console.

Its an okay game, but playing as Siren is basically God Mode.

Yeah? I noticed going from Brick to Lilith was rather night and day. I chalked it up to me being an idiot the first go around.

Maybe I was playing the wrong spec as Siren, but I found that unless I played very carefully it was easy to get myself raped. =/

its cuz shes so goddamn sexy.

I think it depends a bit on your luck with drops. My OP SMG is finally becoming more ordinary and im finding it harder... I had to glitch out a badass bruiser to kill it. took like all my sniper ammo to drop him. Also the Mad Mel guy with the car in the arena absolutely SLAUGHTERED me. i lost probably 20k from deaths to him.

But... you use a car to kill him... that has nothing to do with what character you are using! =P

Heh, I see.

Unfortunately, my save data got erased when I had to reinstall my OS (forgot to backup my steam saves), so when I get back into the game I'll have to start over. For now though, I'm playing Mass Effect, and then I have Bioshock, and then I have Assassin's Creed II, then ME II, then Bioshock II...

That sucks. My Brick game got corrupted. Might have shut off during a save, i dunno. That was a blessing in disguise though as that character spent more time fighting for his life than on his feet.

A friend and I played all the way up to level 50, through both playthroughs. It's a lot more fun with a friend than it would be alone, I think, though it was definitely good solo too. It suffers somewhat from not having terribly many enemy types, and the quests get a bit repetitive, but they aren't all necessary to do. The plot pissed me off to no end, though. Anyone who's beaten it will know what I mean.

My game consisted of "run and gun, kill a couple, oh look phase walk up again, use it, oh look everyone is plagued, dying from shocks and I'm gaining health, out of phase walk and I'm nearly invincible anyway, toss a health pack, oh look everything is dead, if not, then ... oh look phase walk is up again, etc etc oh look I won."

Phasewalk is awesome, but I always found the cd to be longer than I needed it. Then again, I typically dont carry a lot of med packs around and my general philosophy is that I shouldn't need them most of the time... so it could be that the problem was me. :P
