Hey everyone. I just started playing Aion, and I can't figure out how the Armor Progression works. I've been playing FFXI for 6 years, and played Lineage 2 for a year or so. I remember especially in FFXI, you have many different options for armor, even in the lower levels. And usually it can be bought from NPC's at reasonable prices. I'm level 8 now in Aion, and am still wearing the starting Armor. I also can't find any information on where to obtain new armor... It's a bit frustrating, can anyone help me out? Are there any merchants or npc's I can get some new threads from?

Thanks in Advance!

There is a npc that sells weapons and armor in the first city you come to. Dont worry it took me 2 whole days before I ran into it. You can also obtain armor from mobs that seem to drop alot in lower lvls.

City, or town? Can I get to it at level 8?

The only town I've found so far is Akarios. And I didn't find any armor vendors or anything there. God, FFXI spoiled me. I miss towns that have armor shops. I just want something to wear a little bit different.

Awesome, I found one in Akarios... They only had one thing for sale for below level 10... It's the exact same model as the starting armor... But it's a different shade of green... Awesome...

Am I missing something here?

Ohh come now, FFXI has a ton more variety than this. Think of your starting armor, then think of the different sets of level 1 armor, like the robe set and subligar set, then think of the Leather Vest set, and the scale mail set, and the tunic set, and the wool set. This is all before level 11. I'm level 12 now in Aion and am still wearing the same damn level 1 armor, and no one can tell me where to get some new stuff. Only place I found is the Auction House, where after all this time I've got about 12,000 currency and each piece is around 40,000.

never buy armor from NPCs.

all of my upgrades (pre-20) came from random monster drops or quest rewards and occasionally i'll buy some cheap stuff from the Broker (Aion's Auction House).

Aion has a lot more options for gear than FFXI, especially in looks and style. there's also dye you can buy to recolor any visible armor piece.

You are terribly unlucky AND not doing quests. You will get many different kinds of armor from drops and quests. they may not look as different as scale leggings and bone subligar, but it's definitely different.

This seems to be true. I'm only level 10, but so far this game seems like WoW 2.0. As with WoW you don't need to buy much of anything if you don't want to. I have gotten quite a few armor/weapon drops off of mobs that would be great if I were a warrior. Unfortunately I'm a mage. Well, Sorcerer now, but that was just before I logged last night. The key is to save all of those armor drops and (pre-ascension) set up a shop in Akrios or (post-ascension) put them on the AH. You get more money that if you NPC'd them so you can afford to buy the armor/weapons you need off the AH.

A better rule of thumb is: If the gear you cannot use is lower than you are, sell or broker it. If it is higher than you are, buy Extraction Tools, break it, and use the Enhancement Stones to enchant the gear you ARE using.

The two most important items to enchant are your chest piece and main-hand weapon. you have no idea how much a +10 (the max) weapon can do for you. Smiley: grin

Thanks for the tips. I was starting to doubt I'd get much in the way of armor and such from quests or drops. I might have just been unlucky to start, once I got to the Sentry Post I started getting better drops to equip myself.

I wondered what the extraction tools were.

Well I've figured out the armor progression a bit more, but one thing I can't seem to figure out is when the styles change. It seems every style I've tried on, of the plate armor (under 20) looks exactly the same. I'm level 18 now. Does the style of armor ever change? I'm kind of getting bored with this current plate look.

Armor styles do change, it's been my LIMITED experience (I'm 27) that it changes every 10 levels, while models falling within those ranges will vary in color. Also in case you don't realize it, you can purchase a small variety of dyes that work on armor of all types so you can alter it a bit that way as well.

The nice thing is that at level 30 you'll be able to alter your equipment to look like any other piece of equipment (of the same type, plate for plate, cloth for cloth) so if you run into armor or weapons you like, when you find an upgrade (can anyone remember the subligar ...shorts... male Elvaan...) that looks a bit worse, you don't have to suffer.
