I know Champions Online just came out, but does anyone have any first impressions? It seems interesting, but also seems like it might have a steep and unforgiving learning curve, what with the sheer variety of power and specialization combinations.

Also, I heard it has micro-transaction elements, in addition to being pay-to-play. How does that work?

Basically, is this game worth picking up, or should I wait and see how the first few months pan out?

id say with ANY new mmo you should wait a few months, unless maybe you were in beta and knew you loved it.

That's what I'm figuring. Just curious if anyone's got a strong first impression.

So a question.

Is this a remake of City Of Heroes? Or just made by the same people? Or is it a re-off attempt so there is another Super Hero MMO?

I kind of looked into it, just because it would be cool to play a "super hero" MMO.

It's made by some of the same people who were originally involved in CoH. Of course, the main person involved in it is someone few people playing CoH these days has any kind words for.

I haven't played CO but the common thing I hear about it is that it's more of a MMO-beat'em-up than a MMORPG. Much more arcade style, perhaps to match it coming out for the X-Box 360. I haven't hear anyone complaining that it's too much like CoH so if you like the idea of a superhero MMORPG but hated CoH, maybe you'll like CO.

Who are you speaking of, and what did they do? I don't really keep up on gaming-industry scandals and gossip...

Jack Emmert. He was to City of Heroes what Brad McQuaid was to Everquest -- a strong starting force who became obsessed with his own vision for the game and everyone enjoying it exactly his way. If you weren't playing CoH the way he thought you should be, you obviously weren't having fun whether you knew it or not. Which led to nerfs and changes to adjust the way people played, etc. He also lost the trust of much of the player base by baldly lying about (then) upcoming changes.

I'm out the door so don't have times for details right now.

I've been playing CO since closed beta, and honestly I'm having a blast. The main problems with the game are power imbalances, lack of content, and a high learning curve. But the combat is the most fluid of any MMO I've ever played, and the level of customization is staggering. I liked it enough that I scrounged up enough money to buy a lifetime membership, for what it's worth. It's not very polished yet (but then no launch MMO is ever very polished), but I've really loved it so far.

So I've been watching the BFF reports for the last month, when Foney covers this game.

I tried to ask this at their forums, but being I don't have an active account I can't post.
And zam doesn't have a section for this game, yet...

I've played FFXI, been playing WoW, the customization of this game has caught my eye.

Anyways, if any of you play it-

1) I looked at the game the other day while at Wal-mart. It said something about 60days of game time (on a sticker on the box), with a 30 dial trial. So what does this mean? I get 30days free, pay for a month and get another 30 free?

I can't see me sticking with the game unless it is omg-awesome. Other sites + the BFF report have made it sound like it is pretty easy (WoW is easy enough).
But if I can get 90days of the game to play it at the price of 1, that is probably enough for me to see the game.
