Anyone played the re-release of DDO yet? I haven't played since release but it's actually a decent game now.

Have they made it "free" (well, micro-transaction driven) yet?

From another forum:

It's pretty fun with a group, there's a DM Narrator for every mission which makes it feel more like D&D and less like a MMORPG.

Really disappointing thing is if you don't pay $15 a month for it, you're INCREDIBLY limited on what you're allowed to do. Most quests past level 4 are pay only, and I don't think there actually are any quests past level 5 if you don't pay, HOWEVER, if you do enough quests on the highest difficulty, you earn cash shop points and are able to buy the quest packs. By the time you reach level 5 you should have enough to buy the quest pack for your level range.

Ya, you buy turbine points, and can pay turbine points to unlock drow and warforged, monk and favoured soul, then theres items you can buy and adventures you can buy that teh free doesnt get.

paying teh monthly fee gives you everything, and gets you 500 TP per month, buying the points to unlcok stuff can actually be worth it if you dont play enough to make the monthly fee worth it.

that actually sounds like a pretty good scheme. I wish more mmo's would take off on that, I mean could you imagine wow with that type of system. You can get 2 races on each side with a free account and pay x amount of points to unlock the other ones, and have players pay for certain types of dungeon access.

ya its a pretty good system for a casual player, i always liked the payment systems that let you buy hours pretty much too.

I tried it out, and I do like the little mini-dungeons for every quest, but I can't help but feel that it would be a lot more fun as a solo game. With a lot more save points. <.<

Movement system feels awkward and frustrating after WoW. I am not a keyboard-turner, darnit.

Other than those two gripes, I like it so far. It's not likely to replace WoW for me, or even be something I play more than once in a blue moon, but it's not bad for when I'm bored and have nothing else to do.

The original movement system was way too complex to be done with a mouse. It was designed to make you literally have to duck, dive, dodge, roll, flip, etc out of the way of enemy attacks. Go through the first couple dungeons and you'll probably find half a dozen tumbling potions. The intentions were pretty cool but the implementation sucked. I'm not sure if they completely removed all the added movement or just changed all the hotkeys.
