How can they call it an open beta if its for subsribers only? just seems greasy, in reality there just giving away closed beta keys to members.

Exactly, kind of a bad move too. I was going to use Open Beta as a trial to see if I wanted to preorder/even buy the game or not.

Theres always a chance that they will give out keys to any member down teh road, ive seen them do that before.

I hate all these online download sites such as File Planet. I remember a day when we could download a demo and not have to pay a monthly fee or be punished with slow downloads for not paying for it. Seems like if a game company wanted to advertise there game with a demo they could make them more accessible.

In fact I remember a day when demos were called shareware and included 10 to 33% of the game (Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Quake, etc).

You never have to subscribe to download demos, at least none ive ever seen, since betas arnt demos, there betas, and you get fine speeds at fileplanet, you just have to wait in line for maybe 15 minutes, which isnt that bad.

better than the slow instant speeds you get most other places.

So has anyone beta'd it? I've been following threads in other places and consensus seems to be that it's not much of a MMORPG so much as a MMO-Beat'emUp. Fast paced, very arcade style (makes sense since it's coming out for the 360), not much content (folks are saying perhaps 30 hours total). I find the lack of buzz around here interesting since there was much more discussion leading up to AoC, Vanguard, LoTRO... hell, Pirates of the Burning Sea had more discussion.

My ancient computer shuts me out of the beta anyway although it doesn't really sound like something I'd personally invest in. I'm sure some folks who want that play style will eat it up. I'm not a fan of the art style they used either but that's all subjective.

I actually hated the art style as well, it's far too cartoony. I did enjoy my trial period of City of Heroes, and I was hoping that Champions Online would be like that, only better and way more awesome and in depth, but from what I've been reading I've found that, like you, people seem to say it's a rather shallow, boring kind of game with little content and totally meant for the epeen crowd. I'm kind of disappointed. Smiley: frown
