So, I bought a PS3 the other day and, lately, have been yearning for a good sci-fi RPG (normally not my genre, but I've been getting into it).

Anyone know of a good one on the PS3? Hell, I'd even take one on the PS2 or Gamecube.

I'm interested in inter-planetary ones, preferably, but would be interested to hear about any others people would recommend.^^

[EDIT]

I also have a DS and decent PC.

RPGs are the PS3's weak point.

I cannot think of a single one that is Sci-Fi based and involves interplanetary travel.

Unless Star Ocean The Last Hope gets ported any time soon.

Hmmm, Well... let's hope more come along. I don't really want to buy a 360 (not because of fanboyism, but because I don't want to spend that much if there is a good chance it could just break right after my warranty runs out in two years...)

How was SO:TLH? I liked Star Ocean: Till the End of Time... Or, rather, I liked disc one (stupidest plot twist EVER).

How exactly is that an RPG for the PS3?

No.

Xbox 360 initially, Windows PC later.

There are a metric ton of rpgs on the DS, in both tactical and traditional settings, but the only thing I can think of that comes remotely close to sci-fi is disgaea. Devil Survivor might count but I haven't started it quite yet; I'll probably start it tomorrow. The World Ends With You isn't exactly science fiction, but it's also not fantasy setting; it's a modern setting.

Mass Effect is the best recent rpg that is also most definitely sci-fi, so try it on PC.

Skies of Arcadia might be considered sci-fi, in virtue of the fact that there is a lot of really awesome technology in the world, but you aren't going intergalactic anytime soon. You can find it on the gamecube.

The only other thing I can think of that is definitely science fiction and an rpg is the xenosaga trilogy, which I love, but a lot of people do not. If you are prepared to sacrifice some gameplay for story, then go for it. The balance is much better in the second game, and it has an actually pretty awesoem battle system, requiring combos and good timing with boosts and abilities to make the most of your damage.

How sci-fi-ey is Enchanted Arms trith? I still haven't booted it up.

It is about as Sci-Fi-ey as say... FFX with the Machina and such.

There are tons of RPGs for the DS, yes. The only ones off the top of my head that involves space travel is Magical Starsign and Contact.

Magical Starsign:
Group of kids stumble upon a space shuttle in their school. Completely controlled by the touchscreen, very short game, but fun once you get used to the touchscreen controls.

Contact:
Action RPG styled game, you control a person with the stylus. I believe the "theory" behind it is you are controlling them from the spaceship. I didn't care for this game too much.

Your best space travel RPGs are the star ocean series. First Departure and Second Evolution are remakes of the original two for the PSP. Til the End of Time is for the Playstation 2. As mentioned before The Last Hope is 360 only.

Lunar Knights might qualify. It's an action rpg made by Hideo Kojima, with lots of advanced technology mixed with magic, and while there is only one planet, in order to kill vampires off, you have to take them up into space and hurl them into the sun or something. I forgot the specifics. Point is, there are zappy pewpewpew moments in the game while you pilot a spaceship.

Sadly the PS3 is lacking much in the way of RPGs - hopefully something that'll be remedied soon. However, for the time being, you've probably gotten some good advice in this thread. I'll toss in further support for Mass Effect on the PC though. I'm playing through it again currently and it is an excellent game.

I never beat this game. Every time I would get to a certain point and just lose all interest, although I could never figure out why, as it was pretty interesting and the voices weren't bad. Too bad, as I played Star Ocean The Second Story and liked it fairly well (though I admit I only played it because of the anime).

One that im having a blast playing right now is fallout 3! Its for ps3 and xbox 360. Its kinda FPS mixed with rpg elements (you get experience, lvl up and can have many different types of toons) Its more of a post apocalyptic world than interplanetary, but from what of read, later on in the expantions (theres 5 of them) you end up battling aliens aboard their ship. You can also get more party members to help fight beside you. Its made from the people that brought us Oblivion and that series. Been having a blast so far and I highly recomend it!
