2.8 ghz p4 or equilivent 1g ram (1.5 with Vista)
6.1gig HD with 1g extra for custom content

128 meg video card with pixel shader 2.0.

Speed wise it runs pretty good for me but it has to access the HD alot. I have 2 gigs of ddr2 memory but I would say this game could prob use more if you got it. Far as rendering goes it runs pretty smooth with my geforce 8500.

Should I get it? I had planned on it, but then at walmart at midnight we couldn't find it and we sat by the shelf where it was supposed to be for like, 15 minutes and that fat old hag who works in the electronics section at night waddles over and goes "Apparently you guys missed the memo but I'm handing it out over at the counter." Then we got embarrassed, my friend realized he forgot his wallet, and I decided I didn't want to be the only one to buy it. :(

How many different ways are there to kill your sim? This is the only part of the game that matters.

The more I am playing it the more I don't like it. Sims age too quickly and get tired too quickly. On a work day I can't hardly get anything done because of energy (yea I know just like real life but this is a game not real life). My sim is all ready 4 days away from elder and only has gotten 3 promotions. The game doesn't seem to have a anti aging potion like Sims 2 had unless there is just something I am missing?

Also seems alot more difficult to switch between active sims. With Sims 2 you just go to neighborhood and play anybody you want without losing your dreams or whatever they are called now.

Everything seems to cost more then previous games but the rate you earn money is about the same (maybe less as its more difficult to get promotions). The thing I liked about these games is they were easy and something to play for a little bit to relax. They have boosted the challenge in ways that just make it aggravating IMO.

I do like the idea of not being tied to my lot all the time and the idea of sims aging while you play your main isn't bad either.

Wait... all the sims in game age at the same time? I may not actually purchase the game if that's true.

Who am I kidding, I'll still buy it.

EDIT: After reading a couple reviews, I'm re-excited to play it. If you look at the evolution of the series, it sounds like Sims 3 is the natural progression in upgrades. Sims one was very Sim-centric, you really had to micromanage a single Sim at a time in that game. Sims 2, was a bit more familial, Sims could basically take care of themselves, and households with multiple Sims had an easier time of managing all the requirements for progress, like friends and skills.

Now, from the sound of it, Sims 3 is trying to focus a little bit more on communities. Look at just the game play upgrades, you can transition near seamlessly between houses and points of interest? YOUCANDOWHATNOW!? That right there is enough of an upgrade that I would have purchased Sims 2.5 if that was the only enhancement. It sounds like they're really going for a pocket world kind of feel, instead of the old doll house feel of the first two games.

Have any of you created a married pair of heterosexual Sims, had them create a child, and monitored the child? Does the kid seem "better" in some way, like he's gained some of the enhancements the parents have received through normal game play? I'm wondering if it seems like the difficulty has been ramped up because they're trying to get you to run through generations of Sims before getting to the upper tiers of jobs, items, and rewards. Like, you have to go through a few families, slowly upgrading their basic Sim-genes in order to pass on bonuses to their kids. That would be an interesting and welcome change, and would make me see sim aging in a different light.

Options > Game Options > Enable Aging (uncheck) and you're set.

Decent so far. Bisexual female (as I've always made in previous games): Computer whiz, genius, easily impressed, bookworm, evil.

I might just purchase the 'Mid-life crises' lifetime reward to reset CW and EI. Having a bit of a time racking up simoleons (sp?). Emperor of Evil and max painting to snag the extra 900-1.6k from each painting. It's nice that they allow you to have a part-time job; although I haven't tried. I wish they let you set hours for your job, especially once you are on the top of the ladder. It's cool that I'm making 654/hour @ work, but at the top of the ladder, I work three five hour shifts a week. [:sigh:]

Didn't pay attention to most of the stuff as I'm sure there are easter eggs littered throughout the game but when you're learning the guitar, one of the songs is from the original Diablo overworld.

The game overall is slower paced and i find i dont get tired till 10-11pm, allowing me to wake up at 5:30-6am.

Income is much less/slower than in sims 2, but i like it. After you peg out your career you still get raises if your performance continues to be positive. You can also become partners/owners of the numerous business throughout town. throw in the money from royalties from books (my sim gets 10k a week in royalties alone), money from selling my gardened stuffs, fish, plus all the 'opportunities' that reward you with money... theres a lot to do.

If you want to do the other crap in the game and are finding you dont have time, you could always have an unemployed person move in and just work on writing, art, music or whatever.

Problem with turning aging off is the kids stay kids forever which sucks. I liked the life potion as I could control which sims aged with it and it was really fairly easy to build points to buy it.

Prob end up selling it on ebay.

Well, after selling two games, putting 10$ on two different cards, and flushing out the last few bucks of store credit I had at gamestop, I am the proud owner of a copy of Sims 3. It's installing right now, I'm so giddy it's sickening.

From the instruction manual, it sounds like sims age, but don't grow out of their current phase unless you buy a birthday cake? Or is the cake just for if you want to prematurely age your sim? Guess I'll find out in a bit.

YAY SIMS!

thats how i read it too, but in actuality they will age regardless if you throw them a party or not.

I was having a lot of fun with the game. I was a mad scientist, found a hot chick who shared the same interests as me, was making 30 grand at noon every sunday from book royalties, was making another 30 or so grand every monday from all my businesses and had a brand new, big house. Was getting in shape and had a nice garden.

Then my computer died. :(

They will still age unless you turn the option off. The Birthday cake ages them a day or 2 sooner but if you don't buy a cake they will eventually age on their own.

I just wish there was a way to make the kids still age but adults not age. I see you can change the rate in which they age dramatically but once again the kids don't age as fast either. No way I want to put up with a screaming baby for 21 days.

I also don't like how you can't add property to your town. If you can I havne't figured out how to do it. I can't figure out a way to make a vacant lot and place it somewhere. This could be done on Sims 2 fairly easy. Only thing I see that can be done is edit the ones that are all ready there.

Im pretty sure you can go to 'edit town' in the options menu and alter community lots.

As far as i can tell there is no way to make a vacant lot and place it wherever you want, only build on the pre-existing vacant lots.

Anyone else having fatal crash issues? I can only play the game for about ten minutes before it crashes to the desktop. I'm unpacking my laptop now to see if it's playable on that. I'm really irritated that I can't play the damn game yet.
#42 Jun 11 2009 at 8:48 PM Rating: Good
Hooray! It runs on my Laptop!

I used all premade Sims and lots, Just to get right into the meat of the game. I tinkered around a bit and read the tutorials. Now, My sim family is on autopilot, they're relatively competent, and have only peed on the floor a handful of times. One of them has kept things relatively clean.

I really x100 like the Sim lifeline option, The 190day and the epic lifespans are a very good compromise between Sim death in Sims 2, and immortality in Sims 1. I am very satisfied with this change, especially with the birthday cakes.

Looking forward to exploring the town with a handmade sim, and I'll probably log in to the online content to see what's up there now, and fiddle with those. The graphics seem a little fuzzy on my laptop, but I imagine that really is in the game. It stutters every so often, but it's not terrible. I imagine going into town may be an entirely different story.

Enough channeling Gbaji, back to my alternative life.

Death claims the first sim that wasn't in my household. It was my wife sim's mother and I really thought it was cool that the game warns you when someone is going to die so you can see them one last time. She was there visting her parents for a last time when death came for the mother.

Screenshot

I just noticed her father in the background, he looks alot like Jim Norton lol.

My first sim family has been doing remarkable. The husband sim reached the top of the political track and is the leader of the free world. The wife has stayed unemployed so that she could raise their son into a top notch student who is leaning heavily towards logic/science paths.

Things I like so far with sims 3:
Persistent world environment (no more time stop when going to a community lot)
Alternative modes of transportation through the town (jogging, car, and bikes)
A much better desires system
Lifelong goals are much nicer (no more raise 30 children and have a 1000 grandchildren)
The promotion system is much more detailed (example charisma level requires a certain amount of relationships and friendships)
The achievement system is really cool, and I like the randomness of it.
THE STYLE SYSTEM IS AWESOME!
driveways no longer have to be in the front of the house, woot!

Things I don't like so far:
I was hoping they would add pets and weather into sims 3 from launch
I haven't found a way to switch families so I can control my children and continue to have their parents build on their home
I haven't seen any real way of reaching the 60k lifetime items, but I guess if you focus from birth to lifelong goal it is possible
They still like burning the houses down

Other thoughts:
I have played this family I started from young adulthood to elder and yet to get robbed. I know it ties into the criminal warehouse, and I noticed from time to time the criminal icon disappears from the location. So either the police busted the place or it is a bug in the game. I also kind of miss the track rewards from Sims 2, but like I said the new lifetime awards are really nice. I took Legendary Host for my male sim so campaign contribution parties were a cinch to pull off. In fact, the last one I did, my male sim slept through it and everyone still thought it was the best party they had ever been to (possibly another bug, but one I can live with).

The hasrh truth is that they don't care about him, they just like eating his food and brinking his beer. Poor guy.

I made a Me and Leo couple, and gave Leo the insane trait, because real Leo is. Sim Leo can talk to himself to increase his mood, and dispel the lonely moodlet. Well played, Sims 3 team, well played.

The thing I love about these games is that they're one giant easter egg hunt, there is so much flavor, and little modifications that make replaying it a blast. Have you tried out the Steel Sim? One of the premade easy difficulty Sims, one of his traits is like daredevil or something, and some of his interactions have Extreme tacked on, like "Take extreme shower till extremely clean." and "Extreme sleep."

I like the opportunities too, just the other day, I went to the Bistro, and got a popup telling me I was served a dish that I didn't order. I opted to eat it instead of complaining, and I was rewarded with a giant moodlet. Apparently that was the best meal I ever had, and for the next week I got a +75 moodlet. And every so often during the week, he would stop what he was doing and think about that great meal he had. It's the goofy little surprises like those that keep me coming back to this series.
#47 Jun 15 2009 at 3:24 AM Rating: Good
my female sim has the evil trait, hers are "Take a evil shower/bath" and "evil slumber". My male sim has the neat trait so any clean says "clean until pristine". I like how you can alter the sims while at work/school. It really helps when your sim is a bit low on social or fun, and when you need to get better standing with the boss.

My biggest thing is how certain skills have requirements, for example:
To reach Charisma Lvl 9 my sim must have 25 relationships (acquaintances) and 10 friendships. It is much better than Sims 2 and being lvl 10 charisma and only have 3-4 friends. I haven't really gotten started on the collections yet, other then finding a gem at the graveyard when I was mourning a family death.
