Looking for a MentorFollow

#1 May 14 2009 at 12:07 AM Rating: Decent
As soon as I can Download the free trial. I see Eve is Undergoing Some maintenance at this time.

I am a long-time FFXI player, wanting to try out this game. I am trying to Study up on some basics tonight.

I was wondering if someone who has been playing this game for awhile, is pretty experienced, loves this game, HONEST, and patient.. cant stress PATIENT, would be willing to show me the ropes, and take on a apprentice. A basic rundown, a 101 on Eve etiquette, and is willing to just Generally help me out in this game, and spend a couple hours a day, here and there.

After playing FFXI for 5 years off and on, I know I have tried to help many people as patiently, and accuratly as I could/can. I hope I can find a Great mentor, and friend in this seemingly extremely complicated, but fun game.

Thanks again.

While something like this would be up my alley, my account is currently inactive. I can't stress enough to play the tutorial. It will assist in teaching you what a steep learning curve this game has. Follow the tutorial through *at least* the mining or combat portion, whichever is last. Find a good corp with an active playerbase...it will be your biggest asset. You can PM me if you have more questions.

Good riddance, the game doesn't need any more impatient players like you. Go back to FFXI or something.

Kastigir i really do hope you know that was sarcasm, and to say that a FFXI Player is impatient is just plain stupid.

I do in fact know that was sarcasm, and it was negative in this regard. He's complaining that he received no help, when I quite plainly offered him as much help as I'm able.

Kastigir,

You are idiot. I posted this for over a week. And the only thing that was said was "play the tutorial" ... No ****. If someone posted this in a server forum over on ffxi someone would have offered to help walk them through the game to get the basics. This game is weak anyway. Ok, i shoot peoples ships. I mine ore... Wow. Lame. And no one in game was very helpful. Glad i got to try the free download before i bought it. I would have been pissed. And Kastigir, kiss my ***. I will be playing ffxi. At least the game is actually FUN.

Like I said, Eve doesn't need players like you. Enjoy your grindfest.

Wow... witty. Funny you call FFXI a grindfest. I dont know what to call EVE, besides absolutly boring, and a waste of time. I am glad players like you spend hours of mindless droneing in deep space, not really doing much, but keeping you out of our hair. I would tell you to have fun playing space man, but as you said, your account isnt active. I dont blame you, i wouldnt wanna pay to play that crappy game either. gfy

hmm, lets see, last time i was on i was flying an interceptor in a group with 32 other pilots trying to catch a roaming gang who had entered our space, we caught a few and killed them, the rest pulled a log off in space type escape, and then there was the fleet action, over 300 i think - its hard to count when you have to form seperate fleets, and i was helping destroy a pos, in a naglfar.

you know, like all things, this game is only as good as the effort you put into it, and a willingness to work with others, of course, you could always just mindlessly go droning in space instead..... ;D

the hardest part in eve, is the beginning, i havent done the tutorials - i started playing about 5 years ago, and things were much much harder then, now the tutorial apparently gives you the ability to 'steer' your path into whatever you want to do, and thats the hard part, what kind of thing would give you the most fun, be it a hardworking miner, its not all bashing asteroids after all, and the fringes of space arent exactly safe, but thats where the high isk valued ores are, or as a business tycoon, the economy in eve is player driven after all, and there are some seriously rich players, or ones trying to be, me, i have it, i spend it... if i have 50m isk left at the end of the day, then thats a good day for me ;D even PVP isnt that straight forward, you even get to choose the circumstances, to a degree, you can do the faction war thing, join the amarr and caldari in their battles against the minmatar & gallente, or you can become a pirate and attempt to hold players to ransom, or plunder their wrecks.... before their friends come to try and collect yours. or join a mercenary corporation, guns for hire are always in demand... somewhere, or join a corp/alliance with soveriegnty or trying for it, keeping it or gaining it is an ongoing battle, of course there is a lot more to eve than just these few instances, but joining a corporation is the best way to progress, you dont need a battleship to enjoy pvp, frigates and cruisers are standard fare in roams, what do you want to do, is as important decision as.. who do you want to be ;D just don't join goonswarm... everybody hates them ;D

wow waking up a so old thread. but sorry cant help myself. as a long time FFXI player(5+ years)and a fairly new EVE player, i cant believe that a player from a game that almost REQUIRES so very much research (FFXI), would not bother to research the general basics. understandably coming from a fantasy mmo to a space based shooter of sorts might require a little "nudge" in the right direction, but cmon man. your attitude here generally fares unwell of the type of community that FFXI does have. Not to say in any way is it the sort of place where a lvl 1 anything gets much more help than "check the wiki", or where a horribly time consuming AF or just general aquisition fight gets more silence than help (theres a bit of sarcasm for you). im at this moment even appalled to be playing the same game as you. if at anytime in the near future you would just love to invite me to your "all free lot" dynamis LS, or your "we dont care who gets what" nyzule runs, by all means send me a PM, id love to be hangin with a guy/girl who always gets/gives everything in FFXI. id love to walk you through the tutorial on EVE, show you how to do everything, AND get you in a decent corp. hell ill even throw in a billion isk (i know youd hand ovr that much gil to me in FF :P) however unrealistic all this may seem, the point is: just like FFXI do a little research yourself before judging the willingness of ANYONE else to just be your answer man. i know you must not have been playing FFXI as long as you say, to not experience the frustration of horrible drop rates, or inability to access some thing you need(tell me your lvl 25 bard just walked through promie fights XD). if you never have, then youve been handed everything on a silver platter, and your a ****** FFXI player. and an additional point: dont even mention FFXI in a sentence if you cant seem to retain your composure for more than 7 sentences, you do no justice to the game and its community.

This NakoGhost person sounds like a kid who became mad because no one wanted to hold his hand through the game, and probably just wanted to recieve free sh*t.

I understand asking for help in a new game but dont ***** when you don't recieve any, then you just sound pathetic...

well, tbh one of the best reasons to join a corporation when you start in eve, is to get help learning the ropes. its not a solo game, yeah you can do solo stuff, mine, mission run, etc but thats very limited, the game only really opens up when you join a corporation and do things together, whether its a lowsec/0.0 roam, or wormhole ops, whatever, the list of things to do is pretty long and you only get to see it if you join a corp....

fact that honestly troubles me is, while still on trial i was able to magically "figure out" that by jamming in the Recruiting channel i was able to find a competent corp that was glad to accept me. im talking 8-12 days in on trial. the reason i upgraded trial was because i was treated with much respect. my corp leader offered to transfer all of my obtained ships to corp base, and before i accepted trade was given 5mil isk for collateral. once the transfer was complete, i found out trial accounts couldnt transfer isk, so i promptly ran out and purchased a retail account from best buy, just so i could pay back the isk loaned to me. 5mil isk may not seem like much, but to me, that was alot. from the day i actually went retail i was taken through many missions, a wormhole expedition, and of course my corp gave me damn near everything i needed for ship builds, and most importantly, advise on skill directions. was a very exciting time, a wardeck had been thrown down on the corp and i was one of the only casualties (i was new cmon lol). point being i guess: this is a GREAT community, i dont see how anyone with an internet connection could see it as anything else. i would say "try harder", but its not necessary, try just having a good time. remember why your playing a game, if its for any other reason to have fun.....you just spent too much money. (somehow i have 2 accounts here- Hadesdragoon)
