3-d realms has shut down, and the saga of the longest game in development hell ever has come to an end. Via shacknews at http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=1127 from killtenrats.

inteesting link also is her at http://duke.a-13.net/ where they run through a list of things that took less time, such as world war 2 and the manhattan project, or roughly 75 megaman games.

Uh, it's called Duke Nukem Forever for a reason.

FOR EVER.

Clearly, your assumption in the thread title is a lie.

Nixnot is correct. This game is not one that can be hampered just because the developers went out of business.

Nix... i think it is time to let it go. It is over.

I'm sadden because Duke Nukem was the only FPS I liked. A little part of me just died, it was holding on to see the new game.

R.I.P Little Soul chunk, RIP.

Watch another developer buy up the rights to Duke Nukem and continue this legacy. They've been releasing Leisure Suit Larry games recently, for crying out loud.

Well, better than having it go on to be the next Daikatana, I suppose.

A couple of laid off staff who were working on the development of Duke Nukem Forever have set up blogs showing some previously unreleased concept art . Linky if anyone is interested .

I wonder what the hold up was on this game? I mean they supposedly starting developing it back in what 1998ish? No reason game being developed by a game company should take this long. I mean a freeware fan being developed part time by hobbiest could have come together within a decade. Far as I am concerned its there own damn fault they are out of business. Duke Nukem was prob the most popular character they had and they didn't release a GOOD game for a decade.

I know I played the hell out of Duke Nukem 3D. I think the thing I liked best about it was the ease of the level creator though. I made several levels of my school which was so popular it actually made the local papers lol. It didn't take much to impress people though in 1995 when it came to making anything on a computer though.

I know quake was a superior game engine but Duke Nukem 3D felt more real IMO. Duke Nukem 3D actually felt like you was walking through a town etc as where Quake was just a bunch of dull textured mazes. Trying to create an object you could walk under and over (IE bridge, pipes, etc) was very difficult with the Duke Nukem 3D engine. That was prob the biggest drawback of the Duke Nukem 3D engine when compared to Quake.

I seriously think writing a book about the developer of this game and getting into the mind of a studio that crippled by perfectionism and a difficulty completing their game would be fascinating. They should released it in 1998, perfect or not and now they have ******* albatross around their neck that is hard to shake.
