TA is a work of art. Tactics was middle of the road.
Tactics had a much deeper storyline than TA.
"OMG, my life sucks, but it's the real world, we have to face it! Hiding in this make believe place isn't the answer!"
compared to
A deep war between nations, with a vast conspiracy underneath dealing with ancient mystical stones. A single man taking it upon himself to end the corruption, after watching his sister's murder at the hands of those supposed to save her. A boy growing to realize that the people he looked down upon as thieves are there to survive, are an oppressed class of people that was hidden from him throughout childhood.
Biggest flaw of Tactics? It's short. Other than that, the game play is almost perfect. It'd be nice if the storyline missions advanced in difficulty as you leveled like the random battles do, but that's a minor disappointment.
Biggest flaw of Tactics Advanced? The Judge system. Like it's predecessor, it's short. TA2 fixed the judge problem, making it much more enjoyable.
