The initial way into Moria starts in Eregion. To get to Eregion you travel through Tal Bruinen in the Trollshaws. If you have never done any of those quests, the area is basically to the south of the road that goes through the Trollshaws, on the west side of the Bruinen gorges. You can follow the path around the hill to the west of the river. Wind your way south and you come to a previously non-existant log bridge that carries you into Eregion. In the south part of Eregion you find The Walls of Moria. This zone is instanced based on your Moria status. You need to complete Volume 2, Book 1 of the Epic story to gain access to Moria itself. You cannot get this quest until level 45.

There is one other way (on foot) into Eregion, through Giant Valley in the Trollshaws, but the previous way is a bit safer for anyone under 50.

Other than that, you can have a Hunter port you to Echad Dunann (right outside The Walls of Moria zone) or have Captain summon you wherever. There is also a summoning horn in Echad Mirobel a little ways away from Echjad Dunann.

I would suggest starting at the camp just inside Eregion (Gwingris) and working all the quests until you reach The Walls of Moria.

As far as 'where is the loot', which is what I read this as, it's everywhere!
