Trial version errors...frustratedFollow

#1 Mar 27 2009 at 9:51 AM Rating: Decent
So I downloaded the trial version and after finally being able to play I really enjoy the game so far. HOWEVER, you can't get past the newbie areas with the trial version and it's not because it's a trial- there's a problem and I can't get a response to fix it. Once you get to the point where you are ready to leave the newb area, when you click on the NPC it says that the download should be complete soon to allow you to continue playing. BUT there's no download going on. I did all the trouble shooting required and have sent an email to tech support. I went to their website and saw in the forums that people have posted the same problem and not one time did tech support respond.

So....I'm done trying to get tech support to help since they seem to not care. I would've enjoyed playing the game but I'm not wasting my time dealing with it any more. I'm guessing turbine is losing a ton of money by not addressing the issue. I guess I'm just venting here but if anyone can help out before I wipe it off my computer then I'd appreciate it. The fact that you can't call tech support is garbage.

So thanks for all the responses to my earlier posts but I'm probably done with this game.

There is and has been an ongoing problem with the TDM (Turbine Download Manager). This is the module that allows you to play while you download and if it was part of the trial package then thats where your trouble lies.

It is likely that no one from support has responded to you because there is nothing that can be done immediately to alleviate your issue. (contacting you just to say there is nothing they can do for you at this time would probably be counter-productive).

Your guess that Turbine is "losing a ton of money" is most likely wrong. Most players do not use the TDM because of it's known issues and I'd like to hope most interested players have a little more patience then you exhibit.

Since you're in a hurry, I won't keep you any longer. Go ahead and wipe LOTRO off your computer and best of luck in your next game...

The download manager seems to have been screwed up since the last patch...I'd suggest you go to My computer > Program File > Turbine > Turbine Download Manager and run "TDM Cleanup"

This will remove the TDM and allow you to bypass it....

After "TDM Cleanup" finishes, go into the Lord of the Rings folder and start the game from "Turbine Launcher."

Sorry about the bad experience with Tech support, they've been flooded with tickets about TDM, and I think they're just busy trying to get a fix out asap.
