Meh, rape in video games is nothing new. Though most of you young whippersnappers are probably to young to remember it, there was a ghost rape scene in Phantasmagoria. I think that was about fifteen years ago now.

To be honest, I doubt the game is going to inspire anyone to go out and start raping people. I've been playing games for years, and yet so far I'm managed to refrain from shooting anyone, stabbing anyone, exploderising anyone, or kicking anyone in the face .

It won't, but rapes will happen, and instead of taking responsibility for it, the parents will blame the games instead of themselves.

Yeah, but that would happen anyway, parents, and indeed the press, are quick to jump on games as a dangerous influence when really the games I play have no more influence on my decisions in life then a bowl of cereal.

Incidentally, chess deaths amuse me .

Quote:
In one likely apocryphal story about the origin of chess, the King of Hind, commissioned a peasant or minister to create a strategy game of surpassing quality. The king, pleased with the result, and asked the inventor to name his price. The inventor gave the king a choice, his own weight in gold, or, the king could put one grain of rice on the first square of the board, two on the second, 4 on the 3rd, and keep on doubling the number of grains for every one of the 64 squares. The king hastily chose the second option. Somewhere around square 32, he came to a realization that there was not enough rice in the kingdom. Upon realizing that he could not possibly pay the debt, the king chose to kill the inventor.
According to Ray Kurzweil, the first half of the chessboard would have represented some 100,000 kg of rice, while the second half would have required 460 billion tonnes, some six times the mass of all life on Earth.

That made me laugh like crazy. Good times.

As for the OP, just to reiterate, nothing new about rape fantasies. I do find it odd that people get up-in-arms about hentai that deals with such subjects, when there must be hundreds if not thousands of live action **** detailing the same thing (although with fewer tentacles, most likely). Same with games; this genre had been around for as long as games have.

Bull. Same argument that playing an RTS will make you go on a shooting spree. It's not the game, it's the person who plays it, and if that person is under the age of (18? 21? whatever age it is to buy an "Adult" game) it is partially the fault of whoever bought (usually the uncaring parent) or sold (usually the unscrupulous vendor) the game. They think the game was responsible? More likely the person who let them have it was (and I think this argument would only fly for those who are still developing, ie, early teens).

Edit: There's an interesting debate over the effects of lolicon on child molesters. Does it help keep them from acting out their fantasies because they can release the pressure? Does it make them more likely to assault because they become desensitized to it? The Japanese love their lolicon too; almost ANY H-game will have the "little sister"/"middle/high-schooler" stereotypical character. I'm pretty weirded out by it, personally, but I'm not convinced it makes people more likely to assault little kids than they would be any way.

This is completely true. It's easy to shake off accountability and blame something/someone else for problems. In the end it's parenting and, further than that, simply the fault of the individual who commits a crime.

Starcraft made me go to the mall the day after Thanksgiving and imagined I was issuing the commands for a Zerg Raid. True story.

Doh!

Yeah :-P

Of course, you could then make the argument that RTS games make you try to take over the world. Strangely no one has tried that excuse yet. I bet Iranian ayatollahs play Starcraft!

If they did, they'd be preaching war against the Koreans.

Well, trying to put it in their ear would be doing it wrong.
