I have been playing SWG since launch, minus about 8 months or so before NGE when i could not receive high speed net access. I have played the game from when we all had to WALK everywhere, until, well, i'm gonna log on for today right after i post this. I am a 30 something long time Star Wars junkie. I was in the 3rd grade when A New Hope came out in 1977. And that day changed my life for the better ever since. Well, it gave me something to obsess over anyway. SWG has gotten raked over the coals for the last year or 2, and it just isnt right. Now most of the complaints over the NGE are indeed legitimate, but NGE did NOT ruin the game. It just, well, changed it. And i love it every bit today as i did on launch.

There is no other MMORPG game in the universe that allows such a diverse manner of game play. Where else can you fight in space, engage in PVP, explore, follow "story mode" linear RPG elements, collect, craft, customize, and on and on. No other game offers such a variety. And it is Star Wars man! We can enter the world of Star Wars on our own terms and do whatever the heck we want there. What a nice break from the real world! It reminds me of the endless hours i spent playing with my Kenner action figures, making my own stories up as i went along. And SWG has only gotten better and better since the rocky NGE launch.

I blame SOE not for the updates, or the NGE, or for ruining the game, or anything of the sort. I DO blame SOE for abandoning SWG when veteran players started to leave the game. Star Wars has never been hotter! I also collect the same action figures, etc., i did as a kid and it can actually be HARD to find certain new figures. Star Wars is HOT. Why didnt SOE jump on this and at least do some limited advertising of the game. SOE could have continued to push SWG and new people would continue to check it out. And many would stay with the game. I mean some simple magazine ads, or even less expensive web site ads. It doesnt make sense to me to only advertise the games in SOE's stable that have a strong player base, like Everquest. If SOE would make everyone aware this great Star Wars game was alive and well, we might not be losing server populations.

I dunno...i'm done making my much belabored point here. SOE abandoned the game along with some of the veteran players shortly after NGE. And that has hurt the viability of the game. We will never see another entire planet added to the expansion packs. And we are having some serious low server population problems. But i continue to say, Star Wars Galaxies is every bit the great game it was since the first time that world opened up and loaded on my then 19" CRT monitor. (looks much better on my 24" LCD monitor nowadays..hehehe) I will never abandon it. Although i do mainly play on the Infinity server and it is getting rather quiet there....hehe. Might be time for a server change. but never a game change. While we all wait for Old Republic to come out, and act as the 2nd SWMMORPG we can spend some time with, Star Wars Galaxies is a great game. Come check us out!

yes, it has, its not that hot right now, it was 3 or so years ago when RotS came out, but its certainly not that hot right now, especially after the clone wars, which from what ive read many star wars fans hated.

I dunno Master..like i said i am a pretty hard core "collector" and i gotta tell ye if you dont get to the store a day or two after the new figures, ships, etc are released you might not get certain figures. I also shop on line a lot, and it is still a crap shoot. I know i only got my Darth Revan and Malak figures because i happened to be in a Walmart store at 11:30pm one night, and the employees were loading shelves. There were 2 unopened cases of figures. I bought them both, and luckily one of them had the 2 figs in. And that is only one example. Of course i live in central Minnesota, and from what i hear there are other areas of the country that aren't so Star Wars starved. But the point simply was Star Wars is always hot, but even hotter now (or at least in many people's observations) than it has been since ROTS anyway. And i am (was) disappointed SOE didnt ride the wave so to say and advertise this great game!

Ok, this time i mean it...no more whining from me..lol...have a good day friends.

SOE are unlikely to ever advertise SWG, its a game that unfortunately has enough negative publicity surrounding it that it would be hard to 'promote' without sounding hypocritical. It sounds like your one of the remaining hardcores, starwars fans rather than mmo players, as you point out you collect figurines, nothing particularly against that, everyone is entitled to enjoy a hobby of their choice. But SWG is not, a mainstream game anymore, it hasnt been for several years now, and with the condition of the game a matter of some speculation, its to be expected that SOE are perhaps loathe to raise their heads above the parapet and actually promote it, besides that would cost money, and SONY as a company is financially in trouble, passing that particular expenditure past the bean counters might be a little difficult. About the only company able to do that, is probably Blizzard, even in the UK we've been seeing advertisements for WOW, ozzy osbourne as an undead was hillarious, but theres a difference, WOW is a stable game that managed to not alienate itself from its playerbase, PR experts will, im sure, point out that annoying your customers is not a good way to retain them, telling them their not the right type of customers is also a bit of an own goal ;D
so, the reason you won't see an advertisement for SWG on television (or anywhere else probably)is not really that complicated, its because, SOE are idiots.

Oh how much I wanna go off on one of my old rants!

But im not gonna. I have let it go! the time has passed!

I still blame SOE for the nge, but i dont hate them for it

Over time i have come to accept that it happened. I dont like how it happened, I dont like the way they went about it and I really hate what they did with it. and i detest the change it brought about to the whole community.

But ok they took a chance that they could snatch some of the WOW gold and for that chance they were willing to gamble with their existing playerbase. A little silly yes, But they made their choice, had it worked they would of been heroes. Instead it failed, and not just slightly! but in a spectacular fasion to the point it has become a case study in what not to do with your MMORPG, and among certain cirles of friends to "do an SOE" is to ***** up and an NGE is to take something that pretty much works and improve it to the point it dont work any more.

What i truely hate them for thou is the fact that once they knew they had ***** up that their gamble had fallen flat on its face, they still kept going with it and refused to admit their mistake. Maybe if they had actually put some more work on into what they were actually doing things would of been diffrent.

But all that said word from my sources say things are greatly improved these days.

They seem to have added some fun stuff, but thats for the top end players and if you play to their rules,

i bet they still not made the legacy a bit more pleasent to sit through, I often wonder how many players have they lost to nabbo?

Hey Emjay....whats the happs, and no......they haven't made the legacy less tedious...finishing is up wih an alt now.....maaan it's a hual, or it's the endless grind of collections your choice....pick your poison. You could also do terminal missions until your eyes bleed. I few other long quest lines would be nice. Legacy as the ONLY choice for starter quests is a bit.....dull
