So, I just played through the Demo for RE5 (it's available as a free download on the 360 until tomorrow) and I have to say that I'm deeply disappointed. Oh the graphics are nice enough to be sure, but the gameplay seems to be somewhat lacking. The zombies this time around aren't particularly scary at all. For the most part they look like normal humans with an annoying habit of trying to kill you. They don't really move very fast though, so it's just a shooting gallery for the most part.

This time around you get paired up with a partner that is reasonably helpful, but you have to share all ammo and meds with her, which means that every single item you come across you have to decide who picks it up, which gets to be annoying fast. Movement is slow and turning is even slower, the spin move helps a bit there though. Aiming is even slower than that, but since things don't come at you very quickly it's not as much as an issue as it could be.

The areas that you can access are all very small and very cramped, it's alot of hallways, small rooms, and courtyards and such. Hopefully the whole game is made of that sort of thing. The thing that really bothered me though, is that after all these years you still can't move and shoot at the same time. Supposedly you're playing as a highly trained expert, you'd think that someone like that could take a step out of the way of the oncoming zombie horde while still managing to return fire. Then comes the still annoying over the shoulder perspective that manages to block a good half of the screen. I didn't like it at all in 4 and I still don't like it in 5.

I was hoping that Capcom would have changed a few of the more annoying bits this time around, but it seems to be the exact same thing with new textures and languages. Oh well, I suppose it might be worth renting at least.

After playing through about half of the second demo level last night, I agree with all of your sentiments. Of course, I've never played any of the games in the series (save for a little bit of 4). I was also really annoyed that you can't move if you're holding your knife out. So basically, it's only useful if something's already hitting you. Gee, thanks.

the only reason you should ever have you knife out in an RE game is as a last resort

If it picks up after Resident Evil 4 its not the same virus that infected people in Resident evil 1, 2, 3, and 0. It is a parasite that makes people helluva tough.

It's not used as a weapon; it's used as a shield.

Okay it's used as a weapon on krauser, but most of the time it's good for blocking and deflecting projectiles.

Challenge runs.

re5 sounds almost exactly like 4 from your review, and I loved 4, though I did play it on the wii, so maybe the aiming just sucks with analog sticks.

This reminds me of how some people kill verdungo with only a knife.

For those that don't know, verdungo was basically a more humanoid version of the xenomorph that was basically the most scary boss ever in re4.

At first I thought it was way to hard. Then I started on the 2nd part which was more like a normal stage and it was pretty enjoyable. All in all it looks like it will be alot like Resident Evil 4 which I loved. Actually the only Resident Evil game I never played through was Re0 It just didn't do it for me. Loved the RE1 remake on GC and RE2 and RE3 got played ony my Dreamcast, rest its soul.
