Progress as a Trader - DomesticFollow

#1 Dec 29 2008 at 12:25 PM Rating: Decent
I have a lvl 6 trader - domestic
I don't know what to do with him.
How does one progress as a Trader?

The artisan mission terminals seem out of reach for the time being.
To gain xp one must practice but for that one needs resources.
Sampling by hand takes a long time.
I have a deed to a harvester but I don't know where or how to use it.
I'm not allowed to build it anywhere I've tried.

to purchase resources takes credit but I have very little since I'm not producing anything right now, even if I did - would anyone really buy from a noob?

I feel lost - can anyone suggest anything?
I chose domestic with the hopes of eventually making clothes for my entertainer.

Man you really plan on taking the hard way through the game with an entertainer and a trader and no combat toon.

Still Domestics trader isn't a bad profession in terms of money making.

First off I would start by leveling up making pet food, just head out of town and kill lowbie mobs for meat and hide, turn it into pet food and sell it on the Mos Eisley Bazaar, you probably wont make much but you should get a reasonable turn over which you can then use to buy the basic harvesters and raw materials.

Once you hit level 10 or so, I would start looking for a pet and start leveling that up which will get you more credits, meat and hide etc.

From there its really just a matter of looking at the market, getting yourself a house and a vendor and expanding from there, alternatively you could find yourself a guild as many of them help lowbies get started with grind material and houses.

What server are you on. I can take you under my wing for some crafting goodness. My main has been a structures trader from the start(easier to grind up), but many in my guild have done domestics which I believe also produces armor....there is a money maker if you concentrate on getting the various armor schems...I.E. Factional, R.I.S., Bounty Hunter. Big money for full suits, and custom work even more so. If you are on Tempest let me know...if not there should be a guild you can get into on your server.

space, the lucrative frontier... it could be the answer to all your problems, though, whatever you do, dont pick the neutral pilot in the back of the mos eisley cantina, you need to be able to do jabba's theme park in order to get to the tier 3 training, as a trader thats not really going to be easy without help. so, go to coronet instead and join corsec, as a trader your probably not going to be interested in faction pvp - for obvious reasons, but you will get enough money from loot etc that you will be able to afford to build/buy some decent sized harvestors.
ideally you need at least 4, ber 4 personal harvestors to begin with, and a wind generator, ber 8+
use a survey tool to find good resource points, you can't place harvestors in cities, or near lairs, and yes, it does take quite a bit of work to find decent spots, which invariably change 2 days after you get them up and running ;D
my advice is to run 1 harvestor for profit, and 3 for grind materials, used to be you could make money on copper, but if you watch the market you can probably see what the trends are. sample before planting a harvestor, make sure the quality is good enough, though with grinding it doesnt matter so much. you can probably find a lot more hints and tips on the tradesmens forums.
