I really don't know but I am always amused when I read that the components for the PS3 now only cost $50 more than the recommended retail price of the completed machine.

Wow. Maybe I'm biased, being a hardcore WoW player, but this post seems backwards on a SWG forum. heh. I'll admit right-out, I'm brand-spanking-new to Galaxies. I was watching Episodes 2 and 3 on Spike TV the other day and got to thinking 'y'know, I never did try that Star Wars game' so I got on, downloaded the free trial, and gave it a whirl. I thought it was a blast. I leveled to 10, did all the quests, made myself a cool 100k creds and then figured the game was fun enough to warrant a purchase.

Now I kinda feel betrayed, and wish I hadn't been so hasty. Maybe I should've actually left the newbie zone before buying, but I didn't expect the actual game itself, with all the meat'n'potatos of the Star Wars lore to feed on, would be so bland and, well, directionless. In wow, you know where you're going. One zone prepares you for the next and moves you always-forward, branching you off into new zones, new kinds of quests, and keeping you well-geared. Again, I'm probably biased, but that's what I think of when I picture Warcraft.

Galaxies, on the other hand, seems to have dumped me in the middle of a desert with a few generic 'Go suck up to Jabba' quests that got old pretty quick, going back and forth in my speeder with such horrible and misplaced lag that I have to press forward in bursts so I don't overshoot or stop moving in the middle of a Jawa gathering and die. The quests themselves wouldn't be so bad, even the terminal 'dailies', if they weren't so blasted one-sided. x_x Where the hell is all the new gear? I'm still wearing generic newbie-zone drops, and can't use the weapon I just got off a lvl 10 quest til lvl 14. Am I able to craft my own weapons and armor? Who knows...game doesn't mention it. And auto-attacking? God, I'm glad I read this thread! I had no idea pressing 'Y' would auto-attack. Factions? Well I joined the Empire...don't know what that does, or what perks / drawbacks it has, but we'll find out.

Basically, what I'm getting at is that this game doesn't really teach you anything about itself. It just assumes you know, drops you in the thick of it then dusts it's hands of you entirely. It seems more attuned to a beta than something I have ( and did ) pay for, but I get that it's had it's problems for awhile now. Anywho, the way I see it, I'm down 20 bucks and have a month to find a way to enjoy this game. I'm gonna read the hell out of every guide I can find, try to figure out how to craft gear and whatnot. I went Jedi out of the box, hey who wouldn't?, but I'm thinking down the line of switching to a smuggler. Might provide a bit more entertainment.

The one bit of advice I would give anyone joining any game is play around on your own for a bit and then try and find yourself a good guild to join.

I think a functional guild early on makes all the difference to how you develop in the game.

one of the biggest problems with SWG is a perceived lack of direction, and yes, not much is really explained about crafting etc, mostly because.. you can't. only the different traders can make things, dependent on whatever type they are. its a silly system i know which is unique to swg, at least, since the introduction of the nge, to find equipment for your level, weapons etc, use the quest rewards, but you will probably find you might have to buy gear on the bazaar/personal vendors, to get you to a level where you can use the quest rewards. choosing a faction early on does have good points and bad points, the bad point is that the opposing faction members will be level 80 or so, so don't go active duty ;D the good points is that you can use the faction terminals, i think they count towards the 10 xp boosted daily's, and no, their not like the heroic daily's. there is only the legacy quest to get you through the levels at any kind of speed, and that only takes you as far as about level 47-50, though you should make 2 levels a day from doing missions. my own advice would be to choose commando, personal preference really. You also need to find a guild, you'll find people hanging around mos eisley that will try and get you to join theirs, so choose wisely, in that sense its pretty much the same as the stormwind 'sign my charter' kind of thing, any half decent guild will give you a medium sized house and a bike ;D
another piece of advice would be to put a point into beast so that you can have a pet, they help in combat quite a bit and they level up too. :D

Unfortunately I've found the Bazaar to be quite worthless...there's never any items on it. No armor, few weapons ( and all those lvl 80+ ), so I seem to be stuck with quest rewards. I play on TCPrime, btw, which I had heard was one of the more populated though I have yet to see a single other player in-game. Couldn't even get someone to speak via the TCPA. : /

I have learned, however, that the Legacy quests do go quite fast, and give pretty good exp. Plus with the exp boost ring I got for buying, I blaze through pretty fast. Up to lvl 17 so far. I put all my expertise points into the stat-boosts, but I might go track down that lady in eisley and reset them to get a pet. Any help at this point is certainly welcome, even if it is a little purple chupa.

I'm trying to enjoy it, I really am. x_x Gotta find something to do while my Guild works on leveling and gearing up to me to run the Raids.

not sure why you would expect anything to be on the bazaar at all if you play on tcprime ?? or many other players, the test servers are very low population, if you want to play with others your really going to have to join a regular server...

I can tell you are using the bazaar incorrectly. You need to do a vendor search. The public bazaar will only get you stuff that has been looted or crafted by low level crafters that have yet to setup a vendor or someone trying to get rid of junk. TCPrime population is more determined by time of day. When you play is going to play into that server...I can't really say for certain becaues I do not have a toon on Prime....but many of my guildmates have invited me so I may just create one for kicks. If you do a vendor search on the Bazaar....it's the last tab at the top...I believe it says "Vendor Location" or something like that. Crafted gear is much better than looted...if you can find a trader willing to work with you to taylor gear to your level. Dancer is right when she(I hope I'm correct in assuming you are a she Dancer;))suggected joining a guild. A guildmate has more at stake when crafting for a guild member. Pride in product will also play into the work, Or at least it does with me. Once you start to make contacts....you will also start to see invites to heroic instances(Meatlump, Hoth, HK) and higher level quests(Mustafar, Kashyyk..blah blah blah)Which are much more challanging and comes with good loot and rewards. I know people like to try to solo the alot of the game...but if you are new...really find someone with the helper tag and be a noob. I did...and still do at 2 1/2 years. I may act like I know everything(still not convinced I don't) but I don't(I think). If you want...I invite you to Tempest...you may have to switch the toon when they open the server xfers, but you will do it with a guild or people that can help you when you get to whatever server you decide to switch too. SWG community is oviously not what it used to be....but it is still there...sometimes you have to look for it.
