Problem with combat; can't fight anybodyFollow

#1 Dec 25 2008 at 12:36 AM Rating: Decent
Hello everyone; I'm new to SWG and on a trial account. I've been having trouble engaging in combat. Specifically, I can engage in combat but I can't damage anyone. I'm playing a jedi-force sensitive, and the force powers boxes at the bottom of the screen have red x's in them most of the time now, and I can't strike anyone either, so I log in, get into a fight and die, respawn, repeat, etc. It's made the game unplayable but Sony's been no help in diagnosing the problem. Maybe I've got a setting screwed up. If anyone can point me in the right direction to fix the problem, it'd be greatly appreciated as I do really enjoy the game otherwise. Thanks all.

You mean that you're playing as a Jedi?

Well, if that's the case, the red 'X's in the toolbar means that you're not equipping the proper weapon for the profession.

Jedi can only use 'melee' weapons (Swords/Katanas/Polearms) up until the point you are able to obtain a Lightsaber.

If that's not the case, then I don't know what's going on.

Thanks.. I've been using a reinforced staff, but switched back to my padawan training pole to see if that fixed the problem. I even changed my clothes back to my padawan robe just in case. Problem's still there, unfortunately. I've checked my settings and inventory to see if I've messed something up, but I can't figure it out. Red x's appear over my force commands and I can't hit anything, just stand there and get beat up. It seems to think I'm out of range, as far as I can tell. Closing down the game and restarting fixes it sometimes, but it always comes back. Sometimes it seems to depend on where I'm standing -- inside a building, everything's fine but walking outside removes combat ability. If anyone's had this problem or knows how to fix it, please help.. thanks all and Merry Christmas. I'll be at the cantina in Mos Eisley under the handle Dogen if anyone's logged in and can help me out. Hopefully I can figure out which setting I've mixed up, or else I'll have to wait for The Old Republic to come out...

I had a similar problem. This may or may not be your case.
After my first combat or use of terminal, the terminal would stay selected and I was unable to fight anyone.
Now I constantly have to press 'Esc' to deselect my last selection and be able to fight a new threat.

That could be it.. I've noticed things I focus on stay marked in some kind of waypoint monitor after I leave (landspeeders, etc), and it's usually after a fight that the problem comes up.. I'll try hitting Esc and report back.. thanks for the help..

its your targeting is locked on to something out of range you have to clear it and select knew target or use manual aim

I agree Jerok...make sure the thing/person you wanna fight is targeted. If not, your buff boxes will have xs through them and you will not be able to fight because the game thinks you have an invalid object targeted to be on the receiving end of an *** whooping.

Sounds like your on auto target, press the Y key and should allow you to manually slect targets
