I just got it for the Xbox 360.

The game seems huge as far as character customization goes. But it punishes you for exploring and/or grinding.

It has what is called "VP" or "Vitality Points" for your characters, and each fight reduces the VP by 1-2 (sometimes more, I think it's based on the number of turns combat lasts). Once you have 0 VP, your HP and EP (MP basically) are reduced to 1 at the start of battle.

I ran into a problem early on, and ran out of VP very quickly. I didn't get any rest points avialable and ended up fleeing from battle with all my characters at 1HP/1EP until I reached the end. Luckily there was no boss battle at the end. I had to back track and pick up all my missed loot once I found a town to rest in.

I'm sure it won't be quite as bad once I get used to it, but punishing you for exploring every nook and cranny of a map seems kind of odd to me. Maybe there are rest points before each boss though, and they don't ***** you over completely. I've only fought two bosses so far though.

Oh. Yes, they are. Random encounters

I'll write up a better review later, was just venting about one feature right now.

From what I've read the VP system is supposed to encourage the player to change out party members rather than use the same four. Still seems as incredibly annoying as you described.

Early on in the game you don't have the resources to create more members (Golems). And with all the lengthy tutorials in the game, VP is never mentioned. Which is very odd, considering it even went into a lengthy cutscene about how to climb ladders! VP caught me by suprise (What, why does my Werewolf only have 1HP, he didn't die or anything!). The only time VP was mentioned was when you first visit a healing station, it says "This is used to restore VP". I thought they meant HP. The VP = 0 problems are never mentioned in the game tutorials.

Golems are very expensive early on. Later on you get more money and it's easier to create them, but early on it's hard to get more than a couple.

It's much more interesting now that I'm further in though, and I've been able to make myself some more Golems.

Oh, and the Casino is one huge exploit. I'm staying away from that on my main game... it's just too easy to get infinite TB (Money).

Random encounters and endurance systems do not mix well...

Honestly if they wanted you to swap out characters then they should just make it play like ffx. For all of that game's faults the battle system was amazing.

I picked this up today at gamestop, because they were doing another buy 2 get 1 free and they had starfox command in stock also, so I took advantage of it.

That makes three rpgs on the xbox alone that I have yet to even start /sigh

If the lp is the biggest problem, I think I'll enjoy it. I read up on the leveling system and it really is just ridiculous how much control you have.

Ya, the VP system is only a pain in the very beginning if it catches you by suprise.

Edit:
I have a handful of Xbox 360 RPGs now that I haven't beaten. Last Remnant, Tales of Vesperia, Spectral Force 3, Enchanted Arms. The last 3 I purchased while playing Last Remnant.

I really, really like Vesperia. Once you get to around port nor it picks up the pace and you start getting into the story. Definitely my favorite tales game.

Tales of Vesperia is great. I love the voice acting too. And I can't help but smile every time Estelle gives Rita the High Five after battle. Or when Repede yawns at Estelle.

I can't believe there are people out there that think the voice acting is bad.

Eternal Sonata is a turn based Tales of Vesperia. (Not real time).

It's pretty good, I liked it better than Enchanted Arms.

Dammit the pull of that game is just too strong. I guess I'll start it tonight.
