I played the LOTRO trial a while ago, and I want to upgrade to the full version. Will I have to purchase Shadows of Angmar, or can I simply pay for a few month's subscription?

You have to purchase the game as updating to the full version requires a retail key. You can either do a digital download or buy the box.

Okay, thanks. Now another question - I was on the official LOTRO forums [I can still read posts without a subscription] and I noticed a topic stating that Mines of Moria includes Shadows of Angmar. Does this mean I can get away with simply getting MoM, and not having to purchase it and SoA?

Yes, but to get both you have to buy the $40 one, not the digital download.
