Looking into starting, a few questions..Follow

#1 Oct 10 2008 at 10:54 AM Rating: Decent
-What servers are more populated than others?? Only asking because I don't see too many people on the forums here and don't want to start on a dead server..

-I've played a few other MMORPG's, just wondering how this game is?? I'm doing all the research I can, but wanted opinions from people that actually play. I stopped playing WoW and FFXI, looking for something new, didn't really like WoW but LOVED FFXI, only thing I didn't like was having to be in a group for a majority of the game seeing as I couldn't sit there for countless hours waiting for people to do things.

-What professions are most popular and which aren't??

-I saw a forum topic about someone's house and storage, can you really own a house?? What about vehicles??

Any input is greatly appreciated and I look forward to the responses.

not sure about servers, bloodfin, bria, and a few others are decent i think.

as for how the game is, you can get a 7-14day trial (dont remember which) that, as far as i know, isnt restricted at all.

and yes, you can have your own house, or multiple houses, that you can decorate, as well as vehicles, which function pretty much like mounts from other mmos.

Well you will be happy to know that much of the SWG content is solo content, it is really only the high end instances that require groups.

In terms of professions I would suggest Jedi is the most common followed by Bounty Hunter and then various forms of Beast Master (not really a profession but a major subset of all professions) and then all the other classes seem relatively even.

As far as owning houses go, you can own various types of houses from small generic to large planet specific homes, you can also own various types of building, Cantinas, Medical Centers, Guild Halls etc.

Here is a list of the various types of structure available (there are restrictions on some)

swg.wikia.com/wiki/Structures

Vehicles are pretty much the same:

There are also mounts that can be made:

http://swg.wikia.com/wiki/Mount

Server wise there are about 3 heavily populated servers (Bria, Bloodfin are two but there is also European Servers) and roughly 4 medium populated servers all the rest have low populations, in order to determine the one you like I would suggest downloading the 14 day trial and checking them out.

Thanks I really appreciate the responses, I was afraid that these forums were dead and I wouldn't hear back from anyone, but yea I'll go fire up my PC and download the free trial and see how things go, looking forward to trying out something new, especially set in the Star Wars universe which I am a big fan of, the World Of Warcraft world ehhh not so much, I guess that's why I enjoyed FFXI so much, I knew about it as compared to WoW where I have no real background on.

pretty much anytime a question is asked or help is needed theres someone trolling to give an answer, so long as its not an obscure thing no one knows.

I'm always itching to return to FFXI, but reading thru their forums it reminds me why I don't want to waste my time, people ******** about other people's gear, how they play a certain job, it really bothers me how people react to those things when it's a game, something to do for fun, but those people act like it's a job and people should be fired for their poor gear and what not, this game isn't like that I hope?? I'm big on soloing considering I don't have time to form groups, and in FFXI it'll take forever to get to the lvl cap soloing, what's the average in this game to get to the lvl cap??

How fast you level depends a lot on what class you choose to play, Entertainers and Craftsman can reach the level cap in less than 24 hours if they follow the guides and invest in the resources before hand.

Combat classes are a lot slower although that also depends on the class you choose and your support base, Classes like Officer and Commando are easy to level (I made a new character (Commando) on the Test Center on Saturday and he is Level 53 now). If speed of leveling is important to you then I suggest one of those classes even if you don't want to stay with it as they are easy to level (AOEs help) and then once you reach 90 change professions to a class that interests you.

In terms of soloing you have the option to do 10 terminal missions per day and get an increase level of xp which even in the 80-90 level range will give you at least half a level and take you approximately 30-40 minutes to complete.

I would suggest looking at the various websites to get the quest lines that suit your level and follow those.
http://swg.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Content_by_combat_levels

and

http://swg.wikia.com/wiki/Quest

I would also look at the stickied posts at the top of this forum as they contain a lot of information on quests etc.

it has ppl like that who btch and moan because this prof or that prof beat them in a duel but its pretty good usually.. alot of stuff has washed out those kinds of players.., basicly now, any combat prof can beat another combat prof in certain circumstances/terrain/location. some just take /deathblow or /duels too seriously.
some profs are naturally stronger vs other profs in certain circumstances (like a duel), and that makes some players cry, but most are cool.
