Greetings all,

I was not sure where to post this, so I figured general topics was best. This is an invite to check out the MMO Christian Ministry Lions of Judah. Our web page is at http://www.lojkinship.com/. We have groups in Lord of the Rings Online,World of Warcraft and War Hammer Online. We are a clean, family friendly group of Christians, who are dedicated to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the online community. So stop in and say hello, we don't bite. God speed!

Please don't. Even if I secretly hope for divine intervention while camping the Peacock Charm, I don't really pray for it.

I am biting my tongue so hard right now.

(Can't be evangelicals, they think D&Ds and MMOs and the like are Satan's training camps last I heard.)

Well, welcome I guess. I think we've had a few groups try to start up before, with various degrees of success. Problem is, FFXI is based in Japan, where they think that Christmas is the anniversary of the day Santa Claus beat the giant overlord robot Kris Kringle in a death grudge match of doom.

Believe in any god or lack thereof you want, but the minute you try to start preaching to me during my relaxation time, is the minute you and I (and Christianity in general) have real problems.
#6 Sep 18 2008 at 7:12 PM Rating: Excellent
Yeah I do not know what to say.

I really do not think anyone gets on this game to find religion. No offense to you, I am fine with a group that is Christian and all, but I would warn you now that you will not be accepted all that well if you try to convert people in the game.

This is neither WoW, Lotro, or WAR, please explain to me why you are hear preaching your nonsense to a forum of gamers who mostly don't play the games you play?

This is not the place to discuss religion.

Wow, all the guy did was extend an inventation to anyone here who might be interested. He never even began to preach or lecture people about anything. Quit being such jackasses to the guy.

People on the internet are always talking about how they hate religious folks to come in and start preaching about things, but leave it to those very same people to start shouting about how they don't believe in this or that and begin mocking others.

They don't even play FFXI. It is the wrong forum, plain and simple.

I think this here is the problem.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster will surely smite them from the interwebs with His Noodley Appendage before long anyway.

I agree with the sentiment of most of the replies posted here. I don't have a problem with christanity in general untill they invade my down-time. I play D&D and FFXI to get away from the world around me, including the political and religious beliefs. The OP msg is not offensive in wording, it just happens to strike a chord in me that rings of irritation. You have your beliefs and I have mine, leave it at that and leave it out of games, unless you and someone else are having a personal conversation.

Nobody likes being told they're going to hell. At UGA, we have the Tate Center Preachers who come and tell us just that. It's a bit of a circus show, really. They're so busy saying homosexuals are going to burn and all the liberals are evil that they forget that Jesus was a socialist.

(I don't mind it if I can ignore it. I've made my peace with my religion and it's frankly nobody else's business what I believe. The Bible said to pray in a closet, so I do. I'm happy, and everybody else is happy since they don't hear me.)

Not saying the OP intended anything like this at all, but for most of us, our experiences with being proselytized to have not gone over well. So we tend to be suspicious of anyone that wants to witness to us.

You are right, you do not have to listen to someone else's preaching if you don't want to, especially in your private time. However, and pardon me for saying this, you are being a little intolerant towards Christianity in general because of the actions of a small group.

Maybe, and just maybe, would you mind to try to focus your negative sentiment towards the people that produced that feeling and interrupted your private time rather than getting angry towards a bast amount of people which you have never met? I mean, just because they believe in the same religion those guys believe in, it doesn't mean they are going to hunt you down until they preach their beliefs to you 'till the end of time and that you should have "real problems" with them.

Just a thought.

To the OP:
As Jinte said, this is the Final Fantasy 11 forum and it is not a place where we discuss religion. This forum is typically used by us to talk about quests, general questions (and stuff like that) from FF11.

ima kinda against most forms of organized religion. I hate listening to a minister about how i should interpret the bible. (I was baptized christian, though i stopped going to church the instant my parents stopped forcing me to go). the few pluses i can see to organizing religion is if they do do something nice for a community there is more power in numbers, and religions do do their fair share of community service.

but the instant a minister starts telling me what the bibles means is the instant i stop listening. The bible (as well as all matters of information) lose their true meaning the instant they are put down on paper. why you ask? because you cant fully put your real ideas down on paper. it is impossible, reguardless of your mastery of whatever language you can write with, to truely express how you feel about something. words just can never describe it. this goes for word of mouth as well. From Ghost in the Shell SAC 2nd Gig Kuze once said "It is fundamentally impossible for one human being to understand one another" or something along those lines. i believe this to almost all extents.

this being established, if you read a source your getting as close to what the writer intended you to read as you possibly can. the instant someone, a priest, interprets that for you, it loses the true meaning it originally had. instead its thoughts and ideas have been, for lack of a better word, "tainted". that is to say the person who is now "preaching" the book is telling you what it says from how he understands it. which is an inaccurate point of view, to how you may have understood it had you not heard his ideas. The best way to understand what the writers are trying to convey is to read the book yourself.

in closing. i don't like people telling me what something means, if i'm actually interested in what they are talking about i will pick up the book and just read it and form my own opinions. this in my opinion is how you keep information from losing its true value.

Does this make sense to anyone? i always have a hard time conveying this point?

I like this person. I like that he came onto a site that is normally against this kind of thing and stood up and just did it. Granted I'm going to catch criticism for saying this, but I think it is a good idea. I think it would be awesome in FFXI, granted there would be a lot of people against it, but it would work well because there are some people that are Christian and would like somewhere safe to go, and I know that there are some evangelical people around here that will stand up with myself and say that people need to be confronted with their lives and need to grow up and get it right.

Except, he didn't actually begin to preach ANYTHING. He simply said what his online community is about, he didn't even begin to try to force his beliefs on ANY of you.

So far all I see are a bunch of people ganging up on him and spewing the same old "ARRRGH DON'T FORCE YOUR BELIEFS ON ME!!" crap, yet at the same time will type a ******* essay about why they don't practice any sort of religion and why the whole thing is "stupid" to begin with and be absolutely oblivious to the hypocrisy and irony of it all.

If it was really that "plain and simple" then a simple "wrong forum" would suffice, yet if you read most of the responses, what do you get...?

Neither is "Take your religion somewhere else" x8.

Edit: Also, even if he/she did have FFXI listed, do you honestly think the replies would of changed by any serious degree?

My point is we're not all saying "Take your religion elsewhere"

If you'd actually read the posts, they each vary.

Sure, they may vary, but not significantly. Most of the posts have a certain undertone about them.

Religion and internet don't mix. Anyone who wants to see the message will see it so I think it's time to lock the thread before some of the more abrasive trolls wake up.
