Meneldor is NOT the PVP server!Follow

Okay, now that I have your attention.

Meneldor is the unofficial pvp server, it's true. That being said, one can be a completely pve player (like yours truly) and really enjoy this server.

Meneldor has a fairly low population, and part of the reason I believe is because people may think we're all pvp players. That's not the case. Plenty of us never join the pvp fun, but we like to play with our buddies who sometimes do. The PvMP community is also quite active, so if you are looking for that, you'll find it here too.

I've made characters on many of the other servers just to check out the communities. I have to say that the Meneldor community is one of the nicest, if not the nicest server populations I've found. For the most part people are helpful, friendly and fairly mature. We have our ***-hats, sure, but you'll always have lots of empty slots on your ignore list. The /OOC channels are not full of people jibing each other about pvp issues. When I played WoW I didn't pvp. There was apparently an unwritten rule that PvE players must be hassled about their non-PvP choice. That hasn't happened to me on Meneldor. I haven't heard other people complain about it either.

If you're looking for a server to join or move to, check us out. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised.

By the way, I'm one of the officers of There Is No Fifth Star, the unofficial Alla kinship. New members of all classes are always welcome. Fair warning though, we're an "R" rated kinship so we strongly prefer 18+ members.

Hope to see you on Meneldor!

Sadly, Meneldor has the pvp stigma attached to it, I'm glad Yanari and I are on the same page about this.

I started on... I think Gladden. Or Silverlode. Or some other backwater server, before I found out about TINFS being on Meneldor.

So I rolled on Meneldor. Jophiel got me into PvMP, actually. So I decided to try it... then I started trolling the LOTRO forums, and found out that we were the unofficial PvP server.

Bonus points!

I'd say that the fact that one can play on Meneldor and not even realize it's "the pvp server" shows how much it influences the flavour of gameplay over here.

So come on over to Meneldor, peeps!

this has been the case since launch.

Elendilmir is unofficial Oceanic
Landroval is unofficial Role Playing
Menelfor is unofficial PvMP

In all cases they mean, basically, nothing. As none of these unofficial designations change the rule sets on the servers or impact players who choose to ignore them.

It's been mentioned several times in the monthly Kin summit that the stigma is very likely the least of Meneldor's issues. It is far more likely that the official meneldor forums often read like middle school recess.

I joined the /GLFF channel last night for the first time thinking to maybe find a pug to get some marks. It was full of PvMP whining and little else:(

I turned on the glff channel and turned it off again almost immediately. It was bloody obnoxious and anyone in the channel who actually was looking for a fellowship would have a tough time not being drowned out by mindless blather.

I've found the /glff channel to be somewhat useful when playing on off peak times, but it tends to be a pain during the prime playtime hours.

Never knew this. It hasn't affected my PvE play at all.

In fact, I never would've guessed, because -- in other MMORPGs -- I've noticed that PvP (official and unofficial) servers tend to have ruder players on them, because they're there for conflict, not socializing. Yet, I've played since launch on Meneldor, and met maybe three hostile people.

In truth, I've met so many friendly people on Meneldor, with reasonably Tolkien-y character names, if you'd asked me, I would've thought it was an "unofficial Role-Play" server, if anything.

Just goes to show, unless you're a beta-baby or a forum hound, unofficial designations don't necessarily mean jack. As Drulian said here, a lot of people who play (myself included) just never get the memo.

So if someone is new to the game or looking to start the game. They would be welcome in this guild?

I am just wondering becuase I would be coming from WoW and Lotro seems like a much mroe laidback game since I have college and all.

Actually TiNFS is an ideal kin for the newbie. We do not have much in the way of rules or requirements and there is no hard-core raiding element. Some of us like to pvp and others don't. There is no pressure to do anything actually, and plenty of knowledgable players to help you along at whatever pace you like.

With MoM and two new character slots there might be more than one new alt rolled (and not just for the new classes), so you would likely have a bit of company with whom to level.

Would also like to ask if in this ala guild if people use ventrilo to communicate. Because I have found that a guild with vent its not so boring if you can get in a group of people and talk and mess around while lvling.

LoTRO has a built in voice option. When the kin gets together we usually use this.
