Quick question on trainingFollow

I only have 1 account, and only plan on having one account. I am going to be trying to do both mining and missions, so am trying to find the best way. I know that some people create two pilots to use, one for mining and one for missions, but I don't understand why. Even though you have two pilots, I thought only one of the two pilots could be training a skill at a time, so doesn't that make it hard to level both? It would seem that the best thing would be one pilot since any cross over skills would not have to be retrained.

My other question is, do skills take longer to train if you wait longer to train them? Basically is that skill that only takes 2 hours to train now going to take longer 3 months from now after I have picked up my combat skills?

Thank you.

Skill training time depends on you attribute and prerequisite skill levels. If you wait to train a certain skill, it might take less time later if you have a higher level in some other skill. I say the fastest way to training is to max your learning skills as quickly as possible. It will max your attributes thereby making some skills take much less time to learn.

Crossover pilots can work, but they take longer to be made more well rounded because of this. Your decision of course. You could always just train whichever character your playing at that time, while having one character as main to train when you're not playing.

I *highly* recommend downloading EveMon. It is an extremely handy tool for training.

skill training is time related.. and you can only train one char per account at a time... you can train up to be a miner/mission runner.. but it does take time. personally i would recommend maximising your learning skills. a full set to level IV at least.. though for learning itself i recommend level V, will make all your other skill trains much quicker. personally i prefer mission running, the rewards tend to be better.. it takes a lot of skills and equipment to make mining pay off, and unless you can join a corp that has 0.0 space access.. and provides an armed escort in the asteriod belts, your choices would be limited.. mining takes a lot of time to learn too.. as does any specialisation.. combat or otherwise, the main benefit i think to mission running is that it prepares you for pvp.. and pvp cannot be avoided in the game, even for miners.. a typical example is ore stealing.. how does an ore stealer initiate pvp in high sec.. well.. he steals the ore, which flags him as red/hostile to the miner.. and if the miner is unlucky enough when he attacks the ore stealer.. usually with drones.. the rest of the team warp in and make short work of the miner. .. mining is not as safe as it used to be.. particularly if your mining high value ores. plagio, pyrox, kernite, omber.. or worse.. they might be out to salvage your ship.

I have been training two characters on a single account for some time ( one scout and then my main character), but I do not suggest it. Overtime I have come to the conclusion that using two accounts is much more efficient as well as using a macro miner and skill trainer to ensure I do not waste any time (www.simpleminer.com).

get Evemon as stated before. Use it to plan your skill training. I want to point out that it's ok to stop training of any skill (rightclick on the skill). Most people don't know this or have forgotten :) When i was online in eve i trained all the short skills (everything up to 2 hours). I also set a timer (on my phone) to ensure i wouldn't miss any training time. Save the longer time skills for nights, weekends or weeks (vacation) when you're not able to log in. It's very handy to keep at least one 28+ days skill on hold for real life happenings like this. Ofcourse you can also train the 28 day skill in bits and pieces. Try to figure out what works best for your personal schedule. If you have mobile internet on your phone you might even be able to log into eve just for skill switching.

The best way te decrease learning time is to max your learning skills, this was also said before. What wasn't said is that you can get implants that can boost your attributes. It makes you learn stuff even faster. If your clone gets killed, they'll disappear, so take care if you're using expensive implants.

I guess if you really only want to use one account, it might be an idea to team up with a miner. Train your miner to be a hauler instead. In my time the training for a hauler pilot was much shorter. Joining a corporation also helps a lot. That way you can have other people fill in the blanks in your training. Get a miner for your hauler, get a hauler if you plan on staying a miner, get a friend with some nice fleetskills to boost your mission performance etc.
