Diablo II Installation QFollow

#1 Jul 21 2008 at 4:36 PM Rating: Good
Hopefully someone can help me with this.
I have been looking on the net, unsuccessfully, for information on whether or not it's possible to install Diablo II multiple times on the same machine (As I want to play different mods, which all use different version (Zy-El uses 1.09, Eastern Sun uses 1.10 and Median 2007/2008 uses 1.11)).
Anyone know if this is possible, and if so, how do I go about doing it?
Edit:
Turns out the new Median 2008 uses the new Patch 1.12 (Can't believe Blizzard made another patch for DII LOD!)

If you install it to a different folder each time it may work.

Also, 1.12 is ancient. I mean way back in the days when playing D2:LoD wasn't considered strange by non-D2 players.
But yeah, try to just install it into different folders. When you install the various patches you might get the option of specifying where the game directory lies.

If not, just install one and patch it -> move the entire folder onto another computer -> Install again and use the other patch -> Move the first folder back onto the computer -> Make shortcuts to each executable -> Play with those... bah, mods.

What North said.

Although I'm pretty sure 1.12 isn't that ancient, seeing as none of the guides on GameFAQs or elsewhere go past 1.11.

1.12 is from June 2008...so if you consider 1 month ancient, I'm just gonna go cry now.

1.12 is neither ancient, nor significant, nor effective. It was the no cd patch that went out to many old blizzard games. Everyone I know still needs LoD CD to play.

I don't know how my honey did it...but I don't. I'll ask him when he gets home.

You have a no cd hack Tovin. Most people have them for old Blizzard games, which is why Blizzard said "Hey, since everyone is hacking our games anyway why not just eliminate a stupid requirement?"

My WC3 plays fine without the cd, but d2 is borked.

So should I bother copying over all the MPQ files with 1.12?
Or will that make the game play a bit funny?
(Would prefer to have them on there so that I can alternate between DII:LOD, WoW and Mass Effect without having to climb over my bed to get to the computer)

Did you read the patch instructions?

For users that originally performed a 'Full Installation' and wish to run without the CD, all '.MPQ' files should be copied from the Diablo 2 CDs to the Diablo 2 directory. Most users will only need to copy D2Music.mpq from the Diablo 2 Play CD and/or D2xMusic.mpq from the Lord of Destruction CD.

I did not, but Blizzard patches for SC, WC, and Diablo have never to my knowledge required any further action from the user in the past. I was ignorant, but it seems to me like poor service.

I agree, it would have taken 12 seconds to code "please insert the cd" to copy the relevant files.

That said, I can't imagine the "A team" is working on Diablo 2 patches over in Irvine.
