As I understand it Bria and Bloodfin are still the two big population servers while Starsider, Flurry and a couple of others rate as medium servers and with the free server transfers coming up in 3-4 months I can only see the big servers gaining more low population server refugees.

However you may find that when you get back you have a free "return to game" week to see if things are still intact on Bria.

its pretty likely that the low populated servers will become even more so, having said that, a free char transfer is definitely late in coming, very late. i see there is actually going to be a kotor mmo......so.. lots of people running around with glowbats....sounds like a genuine contender for the most boring game of the year award... ;D

Free server transfer? so does that mean more will come to Bria or is there a free server comming so you will not have to pay any more?

no. the transfer is to allow the players on dilapidated servers to move to a higher pop server (possibly bria). they do not plan to allow those on what the devs deem "populated sever" (after a time of data collection concerning server pops) to transfer to a lower pop server- it is intended to get the still paying fans of dead servers a chance to transfer to a more populated one, and only one free transfer per account.

That makes sense thanks for the update. Like I said it’s been a year since I have played. Been deployed will be home in a bought 33 days. Has the amount of people gone down in the past year and are they planning on doing something a bought it. It would seam to me that SONY would not put more money in to a game if it were dead. Last time I played it did not seam dead. but I have talked to people that said they remember when no mater what time you would come in to a server its was full and all the cantinas were full of life. So can someone add some insight to all this for me. When was the last time SONY came out with an EXP pack for this game it seams like WoW there is one every few months? I could never get in to WoW just not me

Why would SOE spend thousands of dollars to advertise a game they are making barely any profit off of thats probably just going to get sunsetted with the new SWTOR MMO? Granted I would love to see some advertising, but its just not viable at this point.

The population has stayed pretty much the same on my server. A lot of people leaving and a lot of people coming.

As for expansion pack. over 3 years without another one.

World of warcraft there is one about every year and a half. The one thats every few months is everquest. I was gone for 4 years, came back and they had 15 expansions.

Yes, there was a time when there were always a ton of people on, where the cantina in theed, mos eisley, coronet, were all brimming with life. unfortunately, on the dark day of november 15th of 2005, the game changed forever with the NGE. 34 professions got changed into 9 (iconic) ones, the game was dry, it had so little. very few stuck around. I was one of those few, for the first 2 years nothing changed but the dwindling numbers. Then, the dev team got fired and we got a new dev team who actually somewhat cares about us and is working decently to keep us fairly interested. That is when the population started to go back up. but its still on the 4-5 main servers. Ahazi, Bria, Bloodfin, Chilastra and Starsider

every few months? the games almost 10 years old and they only have 15 expansions total, thats not even 2 a year average.

It is pretty good though as most games seem to work on a 9 month cycle for expansions, even UO which is 11 years old has an expansion due in the new year.

SWG has had quite a few expansions, though mostly they are 'packaged bundles' that have an in game reward rather than a real 'expansion' WOW has only had burning crusade and the lich king one, that im aware of, though everquest has had at least 8... more now by the sound of it...

I tend to agree with the idea that the chapter releases are mini-expansions but it means that they are missing out on other opportunities, other games tend to use their expansion to roll out new graphics models, client enhancements etc. and I think that it what is needed with SWG.

Basically I would like to see an expansion that included an updated look for the game.

there was a graphics update, well a change anyway, shortly after the nge was released, it made players characters look more gaunt for some reason, bit of an odd change anyway. but yes, the game is definitely in need of a graphical update, but with Sony having a few financial problems at the moment.. i think the best can hope for is that they keep the game running :/

Yeah I noticed a change when I came back but as I had left before the NGE and came back well after it I couldn't really tell the difference.

Personally I would like to see a small expansion (say the release of Tanaab (or what ever it is called) but with a new and standard UI the end of the "alt" button and standardised commands such as "M" for map etc. (Yeah I know I can use the key mapping function but I think a lot of people expect standardised key mapping these days)

I don't think this game is dead yet. I played WOW since beta and I'm bored with it after this new expansion. I have to build my 70 undead shadow priest to 80 and I refuse to do it. I just came here today to do the 14 day trial. I hope they don't nerf things a lot here all the time. lol

It's true that Blizzard advertises the hell out of World Of Warcraft. There is an ad running here right now while i am posting this. That is why they have 11.5 million players now. They also make an expansion every year which puts the game on the store shelves. I don't really see this game anywhere. They need expansions once every year or 2. An expansion is considered a new game by stores like Best Buy and they load up the shelves with it.

I hope some of you can answer my questions in my newbie questions post in another thread. So, wish me luck on my quest to rule the universe. lol

I am really not sure where to place this game these days, it seems after the NGE they stopped trying to sell the game so they could "fix" it but the fixing process seems to have no end.

I agree that if they want to try and develop the game further an expansion is needed but not so much an expansion of land mass but a content and interface expansion, the game is 5 years old and its UI is a complete mess that would not cut it as a new game yet graphically it is fine and the game has a great base in terms of its crafting, combat, harvesting and flight systems.

If it was me I would announce an expansion along the lines of EQ1's Lost Dungeons of Norrath expansion, no new land mass but a huge addition of instanced all level content on existing land masses and at the same time roll out a new UI.
