Game is DEADFollow

#1 Jun 09 2008 at 10:03 PM Rating: Default
Whats the deal? Why won't SOE put some funds back into advertising this game? I was at the Bazzar tonight and there were 42 pieces of armor for sale in the whole GALAXY! Ya, the WHOLE galaxy. 42!

Sure the graphics and the search engine in the bazzar are a bit outdated, amoung other things. True they might not make as much off the game sales as before. But for us die hard star wars fans, and there are a bunch of us, how can we not play a game like this one? I haven't played it in 3 years. But I am back. As I always go back and play a variety of my older SW games. Just can't play the same thing over and over again for days on end. Well yes I can : )

I just think a fresh does of advertising would help plant the seed for others to come back.

Hey, there is still a monthly fee to play the game. They got to be making a few bucks there.

Input welcome.

I will reply with a question, how many 6 year old games are currently being advertised?

I have little doubt that an advertising campaign would bring in some new blood but I have a great deal of doubt that it would bring in enough to pay the costs of the campaign, few new players will play an old game and for some strange reason the old players still seem hooked up on the NGE.

going by an armour search isnt a great way to look at population, considering theres no decay, and i dont think crafters have gotten any love in a long time, though i think there supposed to.

and ya, the games like, 5 years old, if they were gonna put money into advertising something, they would likely be better off with EQ2, or vanguard.

I think any expenditure on the game would be better off in the form of an expansion along the lines of EQ1's "Lost Dungeons of Norrath" one where they don't add new land masses but instead do a major overhaul of current ones by adding large amounts of reusable, scaling content.

But this can only really be done once things like the UI are sorted out.

i wouldnt read too much into the armour thing, for one thing, it was on the bazaar, so was most likely some low end looted, and not crafted at all, if he'd done a private vendor search, rather than using the bazaar, then he would have found far more than just a few odd pieces of armour.

MontyB does have a point though, and its one thats been made over and over, in one form or another, that is the underutilisation of the planets currently in the game, even if they only worked at it, one planet at a time, there is so much more that can be done, from quests to just plain old exploration. the game is not dead though, i think we can be pretty sure of that... anyone else think the commando revamp was pretty good ? :D

i saw an ad on TV for pirates of the carib mmorpg- I think its by SOE.

munition traders are getting work next update- its sounds kind of cool its so you can have the skin and effect of a weapon but change up its elementals and dmg and smugglers might have a roll in the process like old slicing but different. they might craft or obtain weapon compenents that make wep better.

in all honesty, i loved this game, id come back from wow IF & its a big if, they take the nge crap away & put it they way it was when the vets like me got it, damn i put, like 10 hrs a day easy in it (its sad to say at one point i mastered bh in maybe 2 days or so with easy (exept the dreded non targetable bh targets) i holo grinded my butt off back then too, but the nge i couldnt take, the non sticky tageting hmm nah lol i was paid up on my house towars the end that i might have just lost it lol. i did come back for a month to try my guy see how he faired with the talent thing, but even those trees idk it still aint the same.
if they kept a few things & rolled others back id say ok, even fix the last jedi quest id consider it, (sith amulet) but the game needs to get back to its roots or the spaceacefrehley may not come back, even though i had all the expansions
but alas sony had messed the game up so bad i quit eq2 & didnt get the other game vagrant or whatever it was lol
if blizzard messes up like that ill quit them too.
when you get a good gumbo, stop adding things to it, it'll end up givin you the runs & leave a bad taste in your mouth

sp what you want is for them to do exactly what they did to everyone before, to the current player base.

any game that hypnotizes its players to spend 10+ hours a day has way too many time sinks

any game that allows players to master anything in two days has been poorly developed

Im curious.. What server do you play on? My server got a low playercount but still i alone got more than 42 armor pieces up for sale :P

The Sith Amulet quest does work. You have to make a dark-side decision on the Station ... if you have an older character you cannot do this and therefore the amulet is just a collectable like all the trader handouts are.

The best way for SOE to get more people to play is to update the graphics and engine to support Vista/DX10.

Read the official forums more. The original dev team messed up the behind the scenes/core engine. The new dev team is trying to work around and thru it.

There are only 22 dev's working on this game currently ... that includes trying to fix what doesn't work and add new content to keep the newer players around.

ya this game sure did die, thats why its still going, and thats why its been in the NGE longer than either the Cu, or pre cu, and almost longer than both combined.

hmm im still sceptical of this whole kotor mmo thing, theres only 3rd hand information, which, lets face it, isnt the most reliable type of information going, and falls into the, my brothers aunties second cousins friends nephews brother said.... kind of thing. until bioware themselves release something, its all just rumours and speculation. After all, SWG is still going, it may not have uber levels of subs, aka, WOW, but if it wasnt making a profit, then SOE would probably have pulled the plug by now.

as for the whole galaxy #42 thing, it may be an answer but is 9x6 really the question, and why the frogs ;D

its unfair to those of us that were stupid enough to follow SoEs advice 4.5 years ago and pick the server they recommended us when the 1rst 4 servers in ABC order are now the most populated.. they WILL NEVER free transfer us- that would kill there $50 there making off those willing to pay it.. i myself can afford that price but its just the principle of paying there ******** 50 more dollars to play with other ppl that is so absurd- like you finally pay the $50 to transfer and the next week they offer it for free because they do sht like that all the time hence ITVs which you used to have to buy an expac to gain access to now they offer the vehicle for free in various forms

not there fault at all, believe it or not no one can tell teh future, not to mention the recomended server thing is pretty much random, maybe based on distance

like 99% of the mmos out there, if you dont like it, roll on a new server, its not hard to reach the cap

first, you never had to buy any expansions to get the ITV, it merely came in teh starter pack, second, its impossible to get those ITVs unless you bought that pack, and third, anyone stupid enough to buy something purely for an item which they dont even actually own deserved what they got.

Server transerfers are just a way to make money. At least you keep your gear. Back when they were first offered, you lost all your gear when transferring. Some lame explanation was offered about upsetting the economy of other servers if you had your gear.

There will never be a rollback to Pre-NGE. Several Thousands of players signed petitions when it first happened and it was rejected then. Now, years later, it flat out cant be rolled back.

The comment about upsetting all the current player base is funny though. I must have mistakenly presumed that all current players understood that a new game rewrite was not only 'possible' but 'likely', considering the game's past; and hence, wouldn't be upset at all!!!

They need to undo the NGE. It is what caused me to lose interest in the game.

Sure, updating the graphics and the physics might be a good idea as well. The jump feature, for instance, is ridiculous.

The main issue, however, is the crap they call the NGE. Removing the professions or skills system was one major dumbass move. There was something awesome about slowly advancing through the various professions, knowing you could unlearn and start over if you wanted.

I miss being a Teräs Käsi Master. Smiley: frown

I'm just glad I never finished Padawan training, because the amount of rear-reaming those Jedi guys got from that deal. I'm not surprised if they all left. I would've.

Well, I did...

wrong.. they took 3 days to 1 week to macro/afk grind depending on your buffs, macros, etc. no where near slow.. it was a powergamers dream, ppl mastering profs in that amount of time, no one earned sht really, everyone thought they were "masters"..

jedi was the only thing that took time.. eveoryone btched during precCU anyway..pvp battlefield belonged to 3 profs- jedi, combat medic, and bounty hunter.. maybe a couple random riflemen with OP'ed mind fire/poison weps..

the whole shtfest had become stale but SoE fuct up by not making an alternate game of the NGE. or they fuct up with no marketing strategy for the NGE. if NGE was released first it would have floated..

now well whatever ppl still play diablo 2 and it sux for todays standard.. so does SWG but there are about 4 active servers still. the rest are redundant.. maybe a party or event 1 or twice a week- yay/gay..,

in the CU at least, as long as you were 54 already, you could master almost any combat proff in one night.

The kind of ad campaigns that usually do well for an older MMO don't involve spreads in game magazines, but rather, free trial DVDs set up at local game stores. FFXI has tons of them in pretty much every GameStop out there. They can either be free, or cost somewhere around $1.99. WoW has them, FFXI, GuildWars, City of Heroes and others. Why shouldn't SoE put out a SWG one as well? It would probably work better on SWG, since you will have the random Star Wars fanboy going through line at GameStop who will be instinctively compelled to pick up the trial CD.

well, they had tossed a trial in with that star wars pack that was made, had republic commando, KotOR, jedi outcast i think, empire at war, and maybe something else

... some people just can't leave the past where it belongs.. in the past. The NGE was a disaster of unimaginable proportions, thats true, but the game is no longer the NGE, its evolved, its even fun to play again, and this is me saying this!
and for the doomsayers that think its just all going to get rewritten again, i really dont believe that will happen, they made that mistake once, i dont think they'll repeat it. much as i loved the old game, its gone, but not completely, the new game still has some of the old games feel, some of it might even be better now, thats not to say SWG doesnt have any flaws still, it does, but, the overall feeling is positive, the Vets may not all come back, but i think the ones that do, won't be dissapointed, its better than playing with gnomes anyway ;D

I have a qustion?

I have not played in a wile I am active duty NAVY so I put my Account on hold for a wile I am getting ready to come off cruse after being gone since Feb. I play in the Brea galaxy is it still active? I do not want to start dumping 15 dollars a month in to a game that has 5 people playing. But I do like the game. I under stand both sides of the story with the NGE thing and the way it is now. When the game first came out I was going to get it but did not like the fact there was no direction in the game but that is just I. i got hooked on the way it is now. But I do agree they need to up date. It has a lot to offer and maybe some advertising would be a good idea also
