Yeah, I keep hearing WoW is a very laid back type of game. It's just hard to believe at times. I just remember first starting off in XI I wanted to play a Monk *which is a hand to hand combat close range DPS* with a sub-job of a white mage *healer type*, and unbeknowest to me, that set-up would never work.
The way the job/subjob system worked was that you would only get half the benefit of the secondary job. Meaning you would get some stat boosts and some spells. Say you were a 50 monk your sub job would be level 25 and you could only use spells and abilities at level 25 for that sub job.
And getting into a party was frustrating at times because you would sit around for hours if you didn't create your own group, then you would have to pick up certian jobs that could handle certian camps, and then you had to pray that the camps weren't filled.
Then endgame was really cut throat. Not only could you not bring jobs you wanted to in end game, but you would be required to have certiian sub jobs leveled. For example, White Mage which was a fantastic healer, as far as I know, didn't see much end game, you would need a Red Mage, due to the spell "refresh" which replenished a certian mp/per tick, and I think that many would have to have subjob Dark Knight, and certian weapons...and blah...
Enough to make my head hurt and never want to do end game EVER.
So when people say "it's a forgiving game", it's truly hard to believe sometimes.
Believe it or not a lot of players that hang on this board are former FFXI players me included. Did I enjoy my time in FFXI? of course! Do I regret it? Some times... I can put on my glasses and remember fondly Beating Dynamas lord or cop or getting that level 75 limit break done on RDM. Good times... but the price? Wasn't worth it now that I can look back at it. Anyways I could go on and on about the pros and cons of FFXI, but this is the Wow fourms so lets talk about that!
Wow is huge, there are people that are just starting out and have to put up with guys like this: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3967587354 So it isn't just FFXI, you meet the hardcore everywhere. (And believe me the hardcore of wow make FFXI's look like a joke) I didn't matter what game I played I all came down to the people you meet and play with in game, so find yourself a guild you mesh very well with and you will be fine :) Wow has dungeon finders and such, so random grouping can give you a bad taste in your mouth if your still pretty new. Just don't let it get to you. Any MMO you play now you will always compare it to the first and always think the first was better :P
