I just got a new computer and I need to reinstall wow. Can anyone tell me if I need to reload all the disks, or does Cata have them all? Any info would be appreciated.
Cata will cover you up to when the disks were released, patches 4.1 4.2 and ... are we at 4.3 yet? I'm not on my wow computer will need to be downloaded. Much better than swapping all the disks from the prior ones ;P
Yes, we're at 4.3. There was also patch 4.06 which came out a few weeks after Cata was released to try and fix balance issues.
I'm pretty sure you will have to reload all the discs. I know that when I've installed WoW digitally, I have to download the original game first, then Burning Crusade, then Wrath, and then Cata. I could be wrong about the discs though.
The Cataclysm DVD contains all the data you need for a fresh install, so you do not need to use the discs from previous expansions. You will still have to download patches to get right up to date though.
And I have the digital download of Cataclysm and when I reinstalled, it was just one 10gb file I had to download and install, not each game separately.
Huh. I must be remembering incorrectly then. I played on my laptop when Cata first came out, then about a month later I got my desktop and had to reinstall the game there. So yeah, it's been a little over a year and my memory isn't too good.
IIRC you can copy the WOW folder to the new machine and run from there no probs - just have to adjust the settings for the new hardware i did it back in the day, and it should still work - blizz sticks all the libraries etc it needs in there
