I went through the same thing after 7 steady years of playing EQ. Star Wars Galaxy was introduced and it seemed like my entire guild hopped over there, at least the ones who weren't already playing EQ2.
Some of my guildies lived in my area so we planned a get-together to meet face-to-face. (That was a lot of fun!) While we were talking, those who had switched to playing SWG were saying that I should definitely play SWG and be a dancer. *Scratches head* Dancer? Okkkaaayyyy. So I did. I'm not sure how long I played SWG - I'd say 2 months max. I honestly didn't "get" the game. What I found the most fun was racing along on the motorcycle looking thingy that flies. Other than that, the game was totally lost on me. I didn't like EQ2 either.
Now I have an EQ guildie trying VERY hard to get me to play the new SW game. First off, I didn't like the other SW-based game so would likely not enjoy this one either. Secondly, there is no free trial for the game and I'm sure as heck not buying a $60.00 game to try it out.
But most of all, I'm sticking with the game I've always enjoyed, albeit taking long breaks here and there. Thanks to a friend I met there, I played the trial version of Wow, leveling two characters to 20 and am really enjoying the game, so I *did* purchase it!!! I know losing guildies is hard but, after my experience trying SWG, I'm sticking with games I like. And there are other guilds. :)
