I just began WoW about 2 weeks ago and am still in the trial period. One of the quests I am doing is "Bring Me Kel'Gashes Head." I went there at level 15, saw where Kel'Gash was and almost had him dead (solo) before I died. Now I can't find this mob again! From all the Google research I've done, it seems that he is always found in the big hut in Zeb-whatever - on the top floor (which is where I initially found him). I have not seen him there since. I went up two levels standing there and killing the trolls that popped.
Does this mob have placeholders or does he spawn somewhere else in that camp...or does he have a long timer? I've been looking for him for a week now!!

No place-holders, no alternate spawn points. If you're at the right spot, he should respawn in just a couple minutes if he's not bugged. Gonna log in and do a fly-by to see if I can see him on my server.

Yeah, it could be glitched, but that's the only place he'd be spawning. I'd say that if a relog hasn't worked, to try opening a ticket. Usually the GMs can get him to spawn with their magical GM powers =)
Okay, so I went by and looked for him. He's on the second floor, go through the hut, up the stairs in the back, then back around to the front. I killed him once and he respawned in less than 3 minutes.

Ohhh, the second floor? I was almost positive it was the third floor by the railing, but the first time I did it I didn't know the area and just spied him from the ground and went up. That will be funny if I've been "camping" him and he's been there all along. *facepalm* Thank you, Astarinthe, for taking your time to go in and check. I really appreciate that!!

A trick that might help you in the future(maybe not with the differing floor issues, but maybe even then):
/target EnemyName
When targeted, they'll appear on the minimap, so if you're standing where they should be and have them targeted, you'll know you need to either go up or down a level.

Another thing to add to what Pold said as well, sometimes I have issues visually seeing them when I do get the chance to target, so I'll right click their portrait and put a mark on them (such as the star, or skull), as you can see that through pillars and whatnot.

That sounds cool! I haven't learned about marks yet, but I have seen different symbols the one time I grouped with a friend and wondered what they were for. Are those the marks you're referring to, please?
Update: I wasn't on the wrong floor previously; I was in the wrong house...lol. There are two identical looking 2-story huts in that camp. I used the /target enemyname trick and an arrow pointed another direction. I thought..."Hmmm...I know I'm at the right place..." until....I saw the "other" hut with Kel'Gash standing where I recalled the first time I saw him. *Blushes brightly*
Decided to kill him twice since it took me awhile to "refind" him.

Glad things got worked out for you. For future reference also when having trouble with quests...I've found that as a last resort you can try abandoning the quest and the taking it from the quest giver again, and that sometimes fixes misc. issues.
Yup, those are the marks Noc is speaking of. Using marks is actually really easy, you target them, right click, and you get a drop down menu. One of the options will be to mark the target, and when you hover over that, it'll show you all the different marks you can choose from.

When you upgrade your account to the full version, you'll usually see them more often when running dungeons/instances with other people. Soloing, not so much, but I usually try to have fun with playing around with them =P

On a somewhat related tangent, while searching for how to do the mark icons on a ground area (it's an addon if you are not in a raid apparently), I found this wiki link that explained how the mark icon colours where intended to be class related, such as the green triangle for a hunter to trap that mob. But as far back as I can remember, the blue square has always been used to designate a hunters trap target, which makes more sense to me as it looks like the icecube that your target becomes.

It's not an addon. Don't know why whomever told you that said so. It's the little party box that comes up on the left side of the screen (part of the default Blizz UI). There's a little flag button on that box that you can click on then select the mark you're wanting.
As for marks, it just sort of eventually is picked up knowledge as you go: Blue square - hunter trap, Moon - mage sheep, Diamond - lock banish, Circle or Star tend to be rogue sap... Then again, it's also all dependant on the person marking. Some marks are completely different

Plos what Noc said about the ground markers. It used to require a raid, an add-on, or a macro. Now there's a flag icon in the party/raid pop-out window.
