So recently I was looking over my mass of characters, when someone asked what my time played was. I was surprised by when I added all the characters together (cept some low lvls) and It came to 179 Days 20 Hours and 47 mins between 7 85's an 83 a 77 and 72. I spent nearly 6 months of my life playing WoW.
22 days of that was spent on my rogue which to this day is my main.
So whats your /played time/b/?

No clue. I am tempted on starting back up though so if I do I will get back to you. I know, I know, they all return and all that crap so sush.

My total playtime between all my characters would be something like 300-400+ days with my main at about 60-70 days or so.

My main (for vanilla and Cataclysm) is on 90 days played I think, got a couple of alts over 60 days (who were my mains at other points), so I'm probably looking at 300 days played on my level 85s, if you add in the various alts I've leveled and then abandoned that would add a bit more too (but would take ages to log them all in to check). But I do multi-box sometimes, so some of my characters /played time overlaps, a small percentage though as that's just for leveling which doesn't take long in the grand scheme of things.
I've been playing for the last 5 years and enjoyed most of it (and even the parts I haven't enjoyed such as bad pugs and grinding dailies have had a purpose in helping me do other things I've liked), also possibly the longest continuous hobby I've ever had (the rest I will drop for months/years at a time before coming back to).

There is an addon called restfu that you can install. It'll keep track of all your characters for you. You have to log into to each of them though.

Not sure but for the last year or so my play time is almost equal to
(real-life time) - (working time) - (sleeping time)

I have 10 characters on one server, ranging from level 34 to 85. I've also deleted a few that were level 70 but I hated playing. Anyway, my current /played for all 10 toons is 442 days, 12 hours, and 27 minutes. I've been playing since October 2006.
The /played on just my main is 211d 20h 20m.

Altoholic keeps track of /played for all my characters, and all my gold across characters giving me a nice neat summary but I'd require to log in game to actually check the numbers but really wanted to brag up altoholic for what it lets me do, tracking what's in my bags across characters and their various guilds. Makes it nice and easy to go, oh this character doesn't need to carry these 3 items theirs a stack of 7 in this ones bank that it will add to nicely.

While Altoholic is a great addon, it caused my PC to lag 30 seconds or more to logout or exit the game. Once I uninstalled it it was back down to 5 or so seconds.

Lets take this opportunity for some denial fighting.
Those of you who say you aren't addicted to WoW, take my challenge.
1. Add up your play time. Convert it to hours (multiply the days by 24, and add it to the hours). Call this T
2. Figure out how many years you have been playing. Use a decimal value as accurate as you can. If you have been playing Since March 2005, you would enter 6.5. Call this P
3. Multiply P by 365 and call the value you get D
Now, perform this basic calculation:
H = T / D
Now look at H. There you have your average hours played per day. If you added up your play time on all of your characters, you have an accurate idea of how much time you've spent.
If you are in the sub-2 hour range - congrats! You were actually successful in maintaining the status of a casual WoW player. If you are over 5 hours, rethink your life! It's not too late...
On another note, imagine how much money you'd have if you spent those hours working an extra job or starting a business instead of leveling a "toon."
I'm so glad I've managed to cut my WoW play down to 5-6 hours a week. I feel much better about life these days. I used to average 5 hours a day, and though I justified it in my mind in so many creative ways, in the end it was a huge, unproductive waste of time.

I remember a thread for the 4 year anniversary where someone posted a screenshot of a total /played of 365 days.

This is the one part of your post that I'll disagree with. If you're happy with your current allocation of resources, that's commendable but it may not be the way I'd choose to allocate mine.

To be fair, most hobbies can be defined as an unproductive waste of time.
And I'm not trying to justify some ridiculous /played, I'm at about 180 days over 5+ years.

Yes money is nice, and yes there are some things I could do with more money, but I'd rather be happy than rich and I don't think the money I'd earn from a second job would be enough to buy me things I'd get more pleasure from than the time I've spent playing wow (if that makes sense). Things I want money for at the moment would be going on holiday (which is mainly not happening due to my friends not having any money and they don't even play wow, I could afford to go on holiday by myself I'm just not interested in that at the moment) and a deposit for a house (which I don't really feel old enough to be worrying about at the moment and am saving up for slowly). The one thing at the moment that I really want to have money to do (and will be actively saving towards) is paying a couple of months subs on my 3 dormant wow accounts so that I can get back to multi-boxing, because I enjoy it.
Yes, I could spend the time I spend playing wow doing more productive things, but I'm just not motivated to do that. If/when I find something I want to do with my life or I decide that I really want more money than I currently earn I will do that instead of playing wow.
This might be part of the difference in our attitudes. I'm not expecting to get anything out of wow other than a pleasant way to pass the time.

The fact that time spent logged in but half assedly monitoring trade/guild chat while watching tv counts towards time played can warp the numbers.
I do that often when watching football. Interact enough to not log out but really just seeing if some thing more interesting than a Lions v Bills game is on.
Not this year as they are both good but it is a good historical reference.

My main is at something like 99 days. The alts are all under 10 I'd imagine so I'm looking at no more than 150 days over 5 years. I'm pretty casual.
I'm at 175 days across all the toons I still have on my account. I've deleted some alts here and there, but not usually anything over 20 levels.
My mage, who was my main during Wrath, has the most played time at 59 days. Then my druid at 39 days. My priest and my lock (who was my main during Vanilla) are both at 29 days, and my DK has 9 days. What's with all the nines? That's odd...

You are absolutely right - There are more important things than money.
If your life is miserable, money won't change that. WoW is, after all, a very cost-effective hobby when you realize how cheap a subscription is compared the potential number of hours of entertainment that it will provide.
However, 20 or 30 or 40 years from now when you don't have the financial security to retire you might see things differently. That house you can't be bothered saving for right now might not be paid off solely because you didn't think to start early.
I agree that the point I made earlier about figuring out how much money you could have made at a part-time job is pretty weak. But there are better ideas I could have thrown out there. Perhaps spend some of those hours developing yourself within your profession (if you have one) or building a small business, or volunteering somewhere you can make a difference... There are so many things to do out there, it seems like a waste to spend thousands of hours chasing shinier pixels.
Of course, I'm saying this all in retrospect. Between FFXI and WoW, I have well over 1.5 years /played in the past decade.
