But seriously, you guys got off lucky. You were too young to remember the horror that was EXTREME 90s. This is what we had to deal with. Guess who it is.
Thor. Marvel's Thor.

Well, those feathered shoulders aren't half as bad as the helmet. Would like to know what they were smoking when they were first designing that thing, and then even approving it. Seems like they just slapped something on there to just get it done.
Just a tiny little bit more effort and it could have looked like this and been quite nice:
But I guess they know damn well that especially this time around people will be all over transmogrification, so spending much time on creating tier sets is probably not one of their priorities.
I quite like the paladin set. The colour scheme could have been a bit bolder, the gold and silver thing feels a bit washed out, but I like the shoulders and the angelic direction. I also like the idea of a winged helmet in a Hermes / messanger of the gods way but something about the size or the angle here feels a little off. Still, not bad overall.
I disagree that they are slacking on the design, and letting transmogrification take care of it - from what I've read the reception for most of the tier 13 sets so far has been overall positive. Of course it's always going to be impossible to please everyone, but I think they are trying to please as many as possible.
Why so much hate for BC gear? From what I've seen, I really like it. In fact, most of the mogging gear I have lined up is from BC or is a recolor of vanilla tier.
I kind of like the Pally set though the helm is a bit overpowering. I'm okay with the Rogue set too.
I think they've done a pretty good job so far with the T13. Of course I'm not likely to see much of it on my alts until it's long obsolete. Heh - I'll be lucky to get half of my set on my main unless things improve a lot in my raiding prospects.
I think it's kinda cool they're trying to do something different for each class; trying to make them true to themselves. It's a change from lighting everyone's gear on fire, or putting skulls on everything.

BC gear was awesome if you managed to get matching pieces. Unfortunately, matching pieces didn't happen for most of us. There were so many different and conflicting design schemes that most of us looked like hobos or clowns.
That's why in Lich King everything stuck to a relatively same design scheme. Even tier 8 seemed to work okay with tier 10. It wasn't the best match, but a far cry from Chuckles the Orc.

I just want a flaming skull without a hood so I can buy a mechanohog.

You'd need to be Nick Cage for that.
And nobody wants to be Nick Cage.
Only if we require it be the movie version.
But the movie version is to hilarious not to require it.
