Time to merge servers? Follow

Some servers are dying and unplayable.
Realm transfers from high to low population servers are ineffective, who wants to transfer to a dead server anyway.
Did a free transfer from Moon Guard to Thorium Brotherhood with my Alliance toon long time ago, now we have a whooping 316 Alliance player’s vs 7,500 Horde...

Merging servers is the only solution I can think off

Dunno how accurate that site is. My realm, Steamwheedle Cartel, is listed as being 2/3 Alliance and 1/3 Horde. Having characters on both sides, I can say that that is grossly inaccurate. Horde currently vastly outnumber Alliance.

The activity numbers are usually a more accurate representation of what's going on with the server. They were at least accurate when the person with the census mod did the /who survey.

For example my server is 986A/1484H, and the A/H activity is 1.1:1, which 'feels' reasonably accurate (whatever that is worth).

As for Raw's question. I'm fine on the low population server; were number 31 on that list if I counted correctly; pop: 2,420 it says. I'm assuming they'll keep doing as they've been doing, offering free transfers, and listing under-utilized servers as 'New Player' servers to encourage people to start there. I'm guessing that's what they did with mine as it was listed 'New Player' and it was born on Mar. 15th 2006.

Besides I'm enjoying the glyph market way too much. If they merged us, I'd have more competition. Smiley: wink

That all being said, I'm not looking for World PvP opportunities on a PvP server with less than 1,000 people. If you're down in that 200-300 range, I can imagine some things just start to fall apart with the economy, TB PvP, trying to find a decent guild, etc.

Plus, wow, thorium brotherhood doesn't look like a fun place to be alliance. Smiley: frown

They won't merge servers for a while.

There have been server issues for years. This is nothing new.

Merging servers is literally admitting that the game is dying. They might change some things around. They might try some new ideas/solutions.

Blatently saying - "We used to need 40 servers, but we no longer need 40 - we now only need 30" - Is simply not going to happen any time soon.

I dont know about merging servers, but this site isnt too accurate. Arthas, the server I play on, is listed as having 1.2:1 A:H ratio for level 85 and it's completely wrong. Horde outnumber us on that server for a large margin.

Again, you want the activity ratio.

It's 1:1.6 in favor of the Horde at 85. So ya, they do outnumber you by a good margin. Smiley: wink

So there are more alliance characters, but people aren't playing alliance as much...

It has Proudmoore listed as 2.4:1 in favor of Alliance. Sounds about right to me. Yet we still have TB about 50% of the time. It's pretty awesome.

Admitting the game is dying is not a bad thing. WoW is dying. The devs should already know this from their deep study into other MMOs before WoW was even released. The question is what will they do to prolong its life.

That site has too little of data to be reliable anymore as you notice the huge amount of red numbers. If you want a better picture of your server, download the mod from their site and run it for both factions a few times during peak hours and see what data you get.

That said, I'd hope they try and balance servers. They've created a mess since Faction transfers.

I did create level 1 to go look how bad it is on some of them, 3 pages TOTAL on AH.

Not always. Often times a launch, major patch or (especially) expansion will bring in a whole bunch of new players. As the initial glow wears off, player population drops again. Sometimes this leaves servers barren. Some games (like Rift) expected and experienced this; they had too few servers to start, then too many. I believe (could be wrong, correct me if so) that they merged some servers and offer free transfers in order to combat this. The last I heard though, the game is still growing.

Just because they've started to lose subscribers doesn't mean the game is dying. There's still over 11 million subscribers. I just can't wrap my mind around a game with that many subscribers dying. Seems contradictory.

This just in, Pigtails' avatar is gone. And there was much mourning.

We're all dying one way or another.

Honestly, I think WoW will still continue to be popular and lead the pack for quite awhile. I think the loss in subscribers will kick Blizzard in the butt and get them going. To say they are simply keeping a dead game on life support attempting to artificially extend its life is inaccurate.

People leaving? Yes. Competition? Good. In the long run it means Blizzard will be pressured into tighter development.

FFXI IS DIEING!!!!!11!!!!

oh wait. Wrong board.

WoW is DIEING!!!11!!!!

Seriously though, not even close to time to merge servers. I purposely picked low pop servers, and there's still more than enough people on 'em. Give it another 5 years and we can have this conversation.

Kinda. So far it has brought us things like the Real ID groups, the "costume tab" is on it's way, and there are probably quite a few other things in development. Being able to change realms without having to pay a ton of money might actually be on of them too.

Right now you have to absolutely stay away from those free migration offers. Target realms tend to be just as dead as those you're coming from, and this "marked for new players" crap just isn't making much of a difference either - because frankly there just aren't too many totally new players. People go wherever their real-life friends that have dragged them into the game are playing.

Heh, actually I've tried that. J donates plasma a couple times a week. Apparently I "don't have the veins for it" whatever that means...

Means your veins are too thin, or small, whatever you say in reference to something's circumference. Or that your veins are hiding. In any case, it's likely because they can't hit them with a needle.

Yeah, it's just frustrating that I can donate blood perfectly fine, but I can't donate plasma. I know they use a bigger needle, and logically I can wrap my mind around that. It's just really frustrating that we can't both donate when we need the money.

Sell your kidney; someone more useful to society might need it. You don't need 2 kidneys to play Wow.

Private companies use the stuff to make drugs or something, as I understand it. So they pay to get it.

Yeah, he makes about 50-75 a week donating twice. That's the most you're allowed to donate. The first week you can make about 150 so they can try to grab people.

And as I just entered college, I'm so up for selling some bodily fluids. Let's do this ****.
