Also - Someone mentioned that Outlands feels faster than Northrend. I think it is. Outlands was never meant to be done (leveled) with a flying mount. In fact even at max level, Outlands wasn't supposed to have "Gimme" mounts. You had to pay a lot back then...

Now-a-days you have a 'gimme' mount as you walk into outlands.

While Northrend wasn't meant to be done with a mount, it's just seems more suited to dealing with flying players. Outlands just gets facerolled with a Flying Mount.

Can't really agree here. Flying certainly helps in Outland, but it's not a significant factor.

It's the questing that's a whole lot different. In Outland you "unlock" a quest hub, fill your log with like half a dozen quests, then go out and get them done. That usually happens in the same area, most of the time involving killing the same mobs for more than one quest at a time. The Pools of Aggronar or whatever it's called is a perfect example for that.

About the only area in Northrend where it's somewhat similar is Coldarra. Almost everything else is just spread out, and you're lucky if you can do 2 quests at a time. You're getting a little of that back once you get to Storm Peaks and Icecrown, but the time in between Coldarra and that is just a drag...

The reworked Azeroth, including the Cataclysm areas are taking that even a step further, with everything being 100% linear. They even added a whole lot of phasing to it, making sure that you can't possibly take any other route. As much as I appreciate the removal of some of the grind, I think they've taken things a bit too far.

Blade's Edge is where a flying mount in Outland could make a huge difference, but it hardly ever does - simply because the majority of people hit 68 before they even get to that zone.

You DO get a significant advantage in Outland if you know your way around, know which quests are linked, or when questlines may intersect. It's just not the case in Northrend or Azeroth.

And let's not forget the most obvious difference: You get to leave Outland at 68, while you're stuck in Northrend until 80.

I'm one of those people who likes to stay in Azeroth until level 60, Outland until level 70, and of course Northrend until level 80. I recently levelled my priest through Outland and Northrend, and the journey was remarkably similar.

To get from 60-70, it took all of Hellfire, all of Zangarmarsh, all of Terrokar, and about 10 quests in Nagrand. I also did a LOT of dungeons in that time frame.

To get from 70-80 it took all of Borean Tundra, all of Howling Fjord, all of Dragonblight, and over half of Grizzly Hills. The difference is I only did about 5 dungeon runs the whole time I was going from 70-80.

For comparison's sake, to get from 80-85 took me all of Hyjal, all of Vasjh'ir, and a good chunk of Deepholm, with as many dungeons as I good do added in for good measure.

Basically, 60-70 and 70-80 would each take about 3.75 to 4 zones of quests if you didn't do any dungeons while levelling. The major difference that I can see is the breadth of the zones in Northrend compared to Outland. It just seems to me that BT and HF are way bigger than HFP, and don't even get me started on the size of Dragonblight.

For comparison's sake, I looked up some of the achievements for zone questing to compare Outland to Northrend:

Outland
HFP - 86
Zang - 52
Terrokar - 68
Nagrand - 85
BEM - 86
Netherstorm - 120
SMV - 90

Northrend
BT - 150
HF - 105
DB - 130
GH - 75
ZD - 100
Sholazar - 75
Storm Peaks - 100
Icecrown - 140

If you were to figure it would take 4 full zones of quests to gain the 10 levels, Outland would require 291 quests while Northrend would require 460.

To get back to the original topic, though: I hate Ethereals with a passion! Their crazy sound effects have the same effect on me like fingernails on chalkboard, and their movement animation (or total lack thereof) makes me wonder why I bought a fast monitor to go against that very effect.

Just the few of them in Grim Batol make me wish that those damn things never appear again in any significant numbers.

I think an ethereal race would be awesome maybe a race without an alliance or horde faction that could build rep with groups on either side. Also maybe like a race portal ability because of their interdimensional travel. Maybe a haggling or trade skills bonus with the consortium, the list goes on really. Plus your arms or stuff could be disembodied or invisible in parts.
