How are dungeons now?Follow

So, I quit a little bit after Cata came out. I remember being really excited about Cata, especially after hearing that the beta testers were doing things like comparing the heroics to BC difficulty and such. Then is came out, and I just decided I couldn't do it again, all the grinding and such. Didn't help I hated the goblin starting area and my guild had disintegrated a bit during a short absence of mine. Anyway, how are the dungeons now? Has it just devolved into face rolling lol-roics again, or is this expansion truly better for those interested in end game? Honestly, my other worry is what ended up happening late BC where it was impossible to get started to gear up because no one wanted to group with a newbie. Really only coming back because my friend is starting again too, but want to know what to expect.

I apologize if this exact question has been asked before. I looked over a few pages and didn't see it, but have been known to be blind when I search. Figured now was a good time to ask, however, given the release of firelands and all. Also, on a smaller note, does the release of firelands mean the death of the other raids, again like with what happened in WotLK? I missed a lot of content it felt like to people just wanting to gear farm and viewing the in between content as a waste of time, again a big reason I got tired of the game (I know, I need to finder a better guild this time around). Thanks for your responses.

put it this way, with the item level requirements and how quest greens were better then T-10 leveling is EASY. 80-85 can be done in 12-16 hours with just about any dps class, and 10-12 hours with a tank or healer as long as you got the same skill. Just leveled a BM hunter from 79-83 within 8 hours... 83-84 is the longest but with Twilight Highlands quest giving you quick exp 84-85 is about 3 hours.

As for dungeons the leroy method from the start will not work. CC is a must along with precision DPS on assigned targets. I often get in trouble on my DPS characters due to PVP geared Pallies, DKS, and Warriors thinking they can tank and either ME or my pets have more HP, aggro, and mitigation due to them being RE REs.

That is the only negative I have found. Even though there is a min item level PVP is included in that.... and since level 80- PVP gear is cheap many wanna be tanks can go into it with a few pieces and greens not meant for tanking and suck it up with their buddies.

AS a person who has type of character 85 or pretty close (my hunter is my lowest at 83) I will say leveling is a lot easier this expansion. The quest location improvement and the new interface makes it so anyone with half a brain can go " Oh here to here". Also the NEW dungeon journal makes it as long as you can read before a pull you pretty much can learn a fight off the first attempt..

Comparing it to BC I would say that they kept the challenge but as long as you can get a group of people with a level head and others willing to be a bit creative to overcome other people's weakness " IE my Pet as BM actually can tank better then any of these PVP tanks and thank god the healer saw that so I kept MDing to my pet, and kept growl on and the healer really didn't have to heal my pet nearly as much as he had to heal the tank from AOE damage, or your another dps CLASS that realizes that Healers need to die first then casters then melee dps, or your a tank that actually remembers from Vanilla that Strength dodge parry is tank gear not intel plate and resilience then you should have no problems at all.

When you're at a dungeon's ilevel you generally need to be careful, use CC (which no longer starts combat do you don't need to time everyone dropping it within a second) and pay attention to boss mechanics. When you gear up past a dungeon's level (like say you have 2-3 more items to get from heroics) you can roll over them pretty easily, and if a couple of folks are in higher gear (running base heroics in ZA/ZG or raid gear) they're cake. The main problem comes when higher-geared people play lower-geared alts and turn their brains off, or are overly critical of the lower players, not realizing how much their dps has jumped from when they first hit 85. The classic shifting goalposts issue.

When Cata started people whined that dungeons were too hard. Now those same people are whining that dungeons are too easy. The dungeons haven't been nerfed that much (though some have been nerfed).

As for raids, there are occasional pugs of the first tier raids, but the people running them on my server tend to be idiots who require everyone to have cleared the place and not need gear from there. Usually this is because the leaders don't have the acheebie or gear and want a cakewalk without competition. You may be best off finding a friendly group of people willing to poke around in those. Make friends and all that stuff nobody seems to have time for anymore.

To be fair, people weren't saying the dungeons were too hard, just that the effort to gratification ratio was somewhat off-balance. This was back when tanks had their AOE removed because Blizzard thought they were going away from AOE encounters, and healers were balanced towards the triage healing system, which was never implemented. As such, heroics, even normal dungeons, were a regular pain in the *** to run since one mistake often led to a wipe. Sometimes it was just a matter of flipping a coin due to random damage, etc.

The game was ****** up back then. Now it's WOTLK v2.

Well, almost, if you compare the Zuls to what Halls of Reflection used to be. Wipe once and the group falls apart. Healers and tanks love the place so damn much that DPS queues are usually 20+ minutes despite the bribe bags. Most frustrating thing ever, especially since they're more or less mandatory if you want to cap your valor points for the week.

It's a very good time to catch up with everyone else, though. With rewards from JP, HP, and the odd PvP piece, along with crafted stuff and the level 365 pieces from the Molten Frond grind, it shouldnt take more than about 3 weeks to be ready for Firelands without having set foot into one of the 2 older raids.

Pretty much what everyone else has said, with one caveat: it's getting scary for new tanks out there. You've got DPS clad in full ZA gear and rep epics doing their best to faceroll heroics, and they don't care about aggro. It can be frustrating for new tanks to learn aggro management and mechanics when they can't keep a boss on them. This too was a problem during the end of WotLK.

Overall, I think dungeons are pretty good now. Except for Halls of Origination. It's HoS 2.0: it's long, it's boring, and it has Brann - Azeroth's resident moron IT guy.

Also, with normal dungeons giving 140 JP for the first few runs, a sub-85 tank might end up in a group with some crazy DPS. My poor Death Knight had to tank a Vortex Pinnacle run with an Arcane Mage and Rogue in T12.

Rogue never used Tricks of the Trade. The nightmares... they won't go away.

The perk to HoO though, is that you can skip 4 of the 7 bosses if you are so inclined. Of course this can be a bad thing if you need upgrades from those bosses and the group you're in doesn't want to do them. I do agree that the gauntlet in HoO is annoying, but it's not nearly as bad as the gauntlet from HoS. That place is still annoying.

I like how heroics are now for the most part. Even if you outgear content, if you don't follow certain mechanics, you will wipe. For example, last night I was trying to get the last 50 VP I need to buy some bracers to sell, and I got into Stonecore. Granted it was late, like 4am or so, and I wasn't paying that much attention, but it was bad. We wiped on the first boss once, and wiped two or three times on trash before I left. Doesn't help that I hate that heroic with a fiery passion, but even still. Corla in BRC is another one. Even when you outgear content, most groups cannot handle letting one of the adds turn.

Nah, having a girlfriend and remembering all of her crap (birthday, favorite foods/flowers/movies/etc) forced all non-essential information out of my brain.

Come on now Theo. I know you have a smart phone. And if you have a smart phone it's totally unnecessary to actually remember any of that stuff.

There's an app for that!

You're a good Rogue, Theo, but your prioritizing sucks.

Girlfriends come and go, but WoW is forever.

That's okay though, I don't think Theo's nerdy enough to handle a gamer chick. We're out of his league. Smiley: sly Totally agree about that smiley though Bigdaddy. Xsaurus, you should get on that!

My current girlfriend plays video games, just not computer games. I've gone the same way, to be honest. When I want to play a game, I sit down at my 360, not my computer.

Computers are for work and ****, duh. Smiley: rolleyes

Edit: most of my exes have been gamers, actually. The ones that I had a serious relationship that lasted more than a month with, anyway.
