Forgive the ignorant question:Follow

I played WoW casually many years ago, never got to 60 and never purchased any of the expansions. Is it still possible to play that version of WoW without upgrading it through all the current expansions? (I heard Cataclysm revamped a lot of the old areas and stuff).

I'm guessing the answer is no, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Don't have much interest in getting to the new max level or anything, just want something to kick around in spare time for a bit of nostalgia.

All the zones that were part of the original game can still be played without upgrading to the expansions, but you won't be able to access any zones or content exclusive to WoTLK to Cata until you upgrade to them.

BC is now bundled with the original game, by the way.

Let me know if that was worded badly and I'll try to improve it Smiley: tongue.

You will have to upgrade your account through the current patch. You just will not have access to any Wrath or Cata content. On the bright side now you won't have to pay to experience BC and dink around there.

Maybe I'm misreading the question, and if I am, I do apologize; but if you're asking if you can play the version of WoW you use to play, then no. The game is permanently changed from that. Of course, you probably know that, but I figured in case that was your question, I would answer it.

But yes, you can play with just "Vanilla" WoW without the expansions. As mentioned by others Burning Crusade (level 60-70 zones, Blood Elf and Draenei along with their starting areas) is now included in ALL paid accounts. So if you buy just "regular" WoW you'll also get that included as well. *If* you still have your old account you can pick right up where you left it AND automatically get access to Burning Crusade.

EDIT: Fixed some grammar and spelling mistakes

It sounds like the new trial version may be about what you want. You can download a free version that gives you most of the content for the first 20 levels (some restrictions apply).
