Hey, Pol! Let's move this to PM. I don't see anything productive about us continually bumping this thread, nor do I have any feud with you. I'm happy to respond to any points you care to make (including those above), and appreciate that you've been able to keep things to a civil level of disagreement. As I said several posts back, I was willing to drop the matter as a courtesy to our other admins, but that was not to be. If you want to keep going over it in a more public forum, that is understandable, just let me know.

Meh, I can't say I care much either way(basically I care enough to keep responding a little bit longer to posts on the topic). If you want to keep up the discussion in PM, I'm cool with it, if not that's cool too. Just don't expect much from me for the next 8 hours or so, since I'm about to go to bed.

You are partially correct. It would have been more precise to say a couple and I retract any implication of a larger number. I see <link removed> in two posts beyond the first, one by AstarintheDruid and one by Anobix.
Oh, I see what happened. I don't count Anobix as a person. Smiley: tongue

Hey there,

Thought I would peek my head in again and put a rest to speculation. I apologize if my corporate-friendly demeanor was interpreted as anything but.

When I look at reports, I do often look at a user's history and the like. Usually, I would nuke and ban without any words or second thoughts.

While I do concur that the overall point of the discussion was relevant, I did not feel at the time that a URL to an RMT site was necessary to make the point. I didn't feel any disciplinary action was necessary or appropriate, but simply removed a reference that was reported by a member of the community; and rather than be that shady guy behind the scenes... had what I felt was the fortitude to stand behind my actions in what I felt was a corporate-friendly, diplomatic manner. Granted my post was rather stock, but is a force of habit from other corporate situations.

Again, I am sorry if you felt insulted by my actions, but it is understandable to be upset when one's words, however well-intentioned, are deleted.

Please accept this olive branch as what it is, and I look forward to seeing you all around the community, and in-game :)

Sincerely,

I agree that URLs to RMT sites should be removed. The community here has never condoned RMT. People bring their gold selling crap here and we roast them.

But with that said... where's my post? Smiley: dubious

Would you be alright with Blizzard implementing a similar system for the sale of Rare mount drops, pets, card game items or other vanity drops?

Depends. Do you mean on a personal level or as a member of the community here?

Okay, cool. I'll have to extract it from Protein later. Where's my knife...

On to the next question: are you a woman?

As a player.

If a random world drop pet, a dungeon dropped mount or an item only obtainable through the WoW card game became sell~able over the AH for real world dollars how would you react?

To take it a step farther, if vanity mounts that were obtainable via dungeons became available via cash money through the blizzard store how would you feel? Say the Amani War Bear, or ZG Raptor/Tiger which are no longer available. Or Achievement mounts that are no longer available like the Plagued Proto Drake or Scarab mount from the AQ opening event? How about in game titles? 5$ for the Immortal which is no longer available?

None would effect the competitive play of PvE or PvP ladders. There is precedent for vanity items being sold on the WoW store so it is likely they will continue down that line. However if they make a hefty margin in volume for D3 player to player micro transactions you will see it in WoW in some form or another.

Can't say I like where it's heading.

That said, though, RMT outside of Blizzard's control is not condoned by the site, and while we're on the site, we have to abide by those rules. If ZAM changed the rules I'd probably not care. I'd still report advertisements, though, as I consider it spam, but I wouldn't care if someone linked to a RMT site during a discussion, as was done here.

I also don't mean to muddle two issues.

Dependant on the success of the AH in D3 I believe it being used at least for vanity items in WoW is a given, which is what I would want your opinion on as a player.

There will be vanity items sold over the Blizz store such as pets/mounts. It will expand at some point to include other things, that is only obvious at this point. I would be shocked if an ingame title doesn't get tried at some point.

It is also apparent that they look on having a BattleNet+ type premium account with additional ingame features built in to help drive additional revenue. Such as the attempt on cross realm grouping.

The premium thing can go die in a fire, as can any plans to make armor and weaponry available for real life money. As long as they're keeping it to vanity items and titles, I don't care. Or rather, I care, but not enough to make me stop playing.

Cheez Wiz is cheese on a can (like whipped cream), right?

Seriously, that's just wrong.

Sort of. There is cheese, which is generally recognizable as cheese. There is cheese spread, which still seems to have cheese in its ancestry. There are 'cheese' slices that may be convenient on a cheeseburger but close reading may show it is a 'cheese food'. There is Velveeta, the-cheese-that-will-not-die, that is enough like cheese to be handy for dishes like mac and cheese, but is capable of lurking in the back of your fridge unchanged for years at a time. That brings us to Cheese Wiz, which you can think of as thin Velveeta that can be squirted out of a can like whipped cream. If cheese spread recognizably has cheese in its ancestry, Cheese Wiz is like looking at a Yorkie, thinking about a wolf, and wondering what went wrong.

As far as I'm concerned, that line got crossed some time ago, with the cross over between the MMO and the CCG. The CCG created a way to not only get something in game after spending money, but also to sell that thing on the auction hou ... erm, I mean eBay.

There is the joke, sometimes attributed to Shaw and sometimes to Churchill, where the punchline (following "What kind of woman do you think I am?") is "Madam, we’ve already established that. Now we are haggling about the price." In this case, we're just trying to find out if that will be cash or credit.

Nepa,

Just FYI, many of us have been around since before Zam became a corporate entity. And while we understand and accept the change, we don't like it being thrown in our faces. A textbook action and response isn't going to be very well received here.

With that said, welcome.

As far as the whole RMT AH, I'm against it for two reasons. One is the obvious RMT aspect, the other is the model it sets for future games.

The RMT AH isn't going to have as big of an impact as it would in a traditional MMO, but it is definitely going to have an affect, especially in the beginning. Once the higher end rare items appear, they are going straight to the real money AH, forcing players to spend the money or go without. Even if certain people refuse to list on the real money AH, people will just grab it from the gold AH and relist it on the real money AH.

Vanity items are one thing, but items that give any type of benefit or advantage are going too far.

And this is completely ignoring the legal and taxation issues associated with this whole thing.

Actually, I believe Cheez Wiz comes in a jar. Easy Cheese comes in a can with a dispenser tip.
