Hello all, I am playing WoW and I am always broke! And as I can see, a LOT of players are sooo wealthy that they can buy anything they want without even having to worry about their gold amout. How do they do? Many guys who are my guildies and in-game friends are in this situation..... but I can't understand how they can be, because I have always been broke in the game. And, in addition, I have always been watching my golds carefully and trying to save money as much as I could, but it dosen't seem to be useful at all.

Do any of you who have plenty of golds and who know some secrets can help me. Cause gold guides that can be found on the internet are not worth anything and always disappointing, I was thinking that you could give me some real advices that could help me making some money so I can enjoy the game even more!? - Tell me if you know a gold guide that works and is woth it!

I'd like to hear you, please help me. And also, tell me is there are already some posts that give good tips and tricks on how to make golds on this forum...

Thank you very much, I hope you may help me!

Picking up two gathering professions. I prefer mining and herbalism. Sell all of the materials.

Never buy anything from the auction house...ever.

Sell every green you get in the AH unless you're an enchanter. In which case you want to disenchant any green you get.

Buying recipes that can be only obtained from vendors (cooking and enchanting especially) and selling them at inflated prices are a good way to make money.

Minipets that can be bought from a vendor can be resold for profit. I regularly buy snakes in Ogrimmar and resell them in the AH and make a 15-20g profit. If you have a friend who can help you transfer them to the opposing faction's side you can make even more.

Never buy from the auction house...ever. (okay, exception, maybe to buy bags)

Create a character stationed in a capital near a mailbox. Mail all of your sellables to this character. It saves time and is convenient.

Do lots of quests.

These are the easiest ways to make money. There are of course more involved options that can net you more gold. But these are a good starting spot.

Every time I create a new character on a new server I do this (usually I make a DK and farm mats, but you can do it without one). By the time I made it to level 40 I usually had enough money from epic riding and when it was 1000g, dual spec.

Download an addon called Auctioneer. Its a MUST for helping sell things.

You think you have it tough now, why when I was just a wee toon from level 5 to 15, it was uphill both ways between Goldshire and Stormwind, and I had nary a gold piece to my name. Finally I took my toon over hill and dale and ocean to the Barrens where I started fishing up Deviate Fish. Just selling these on the auction house netted an average of 1 to 2 gold a piece. Even still, some of toons were nearly 50 before they got even 100 gold.

Of course that was several years ago, and since then I've leveled up 9 Alliance toons to between 78 to 85 on the same realm, and the rewards from questing as one levels will increase. These toons cover all races, classes (except DK) and professions, so I can gather or craft anything for my own toons or to auction off. So having thousands of gold at a higher level is not unusual thing to see.

But more recently after Cataclysm came out, I started a few new Horde toons (goblin priest and tauren feral druid) that did not have help from higher level toons (didn't send any money from my Alliance toons through neutral AH to them). With only skinning and herbalism as professions, and auctioning off the herbs & leathers, both of these Horde toons had over 200 gold each by the time they hit level 20. This was more than enough to buy the occasional new piece of armor or weapon that I wasn't already getting from solo questing.

Now Cataclysm seems to make leveling and questing easier, and you are more likely to outlevel the zones you go through. But as long as mobs and quests are not grey, then continue to do those zones. Vendor everything you don't need to equip, and don't bother with crafting professions (unless you have several alts), but just have 2 gathering professions, and sell all of that on the AH. Don't forget to do your fishing / cooking dailies for each of the cities, get archaeology when you hit 20 and do these if there happens to be a dig in the area you are questing in.

This is all mostly solo questing advice, but some of the others on this forum may have better information on how profitable doing instances are.

If you do really want a crafting profession, Inscription is still a good choice.

I recently started up a Warrior with Herbalism and Inscription. Once you can start making gylphs the cash flow can become pretty lucrative. It got to the point that I dropped Herbalism for Enchanting because I didn't want to go back to old zones to have my Herbalism catch up to my Inscription skill. It made more sense to purchase herbs on the AH when they were cheap, and turn them into glyphs to sell at a profit. Time is money friend. Smiley: nod

At this point I pretty much level Inscription/Enchanting by scouring the AH for cheap herbs & greens, then disenchanting/milling and leveling the professions. So far it's not quite as profitable as a skinning/herbalism alt on the same server. However scanning the AH looking for deals (seriously some kind of AH addon is a must) is a nice change from the gathering grind. I'm at level 41 and sitting on about 200g. I have about 150 auctions up, have about 60 outstanding bids, and have managed to get my primary and secondary professions all sitting around 235-250ish. Also being constantly on the lookout for cheap disenchant-able gear keeps my character better equipped than I would be otherwise; and barely costs a thing. The down side is that glyph prices can be very volatile; given the demand for them and the low cost of production.

Also consider the fishing skill, or farm mats needed for the cooking skill in some way. Spending an hour running around the southern barrens killing lions, for example, can be quite profitable for an appropriate level character; plus you'll continue to level up as you go.

In the end the more time you spend trying to earn money, the more you'll make. PvP while leveling is fun, but it isn't profitable. Smiley: wink

About Inscription, make sure to check the market on your server. Some markets are better than others.

Lil Sparky's Workship is a great addon for any crafting professions. In your crafting UI it displays the cost of materials in one column and how much you can sell it for on the AH for in another.

The only things I buy from auction houses are cloth and glyphs. I much prefer bandages to food to regain strength, so I do first aid, but my bandage making skills go way beyond the level of cloth I'm getting off mobs. Can't make my own glyphs, so I buy those I think are cost-benefit positive.

Making money isn't hard. Two gathering professions. Skinning is more consistent and universal than herbs, though herbs can be good when you can find them. Also don't get greedy at auction. Its better to take a little less profit and sell all your stuff than to let it keep coming back and eating up bag slots.

The posts above contain good advice. There are a few other things to consider:

Grey may be vendor trash, but it is still money. Throw greys if your bags fill up, but use an addon that will show vendor prices and sell what you can. Empty bag space is like empty cargo space; you're moving it anyway, so why move it empty?

Recognize whites that have higher than normal AH value and know how to gather them. On the servers I'm on, clams are a good example. Regular clams are priced in gold because they're handy for leveling cooking and as a bonus one sometimes gets pearls. There are times that it can be worth farming such items to help build your bankroll. For example, I had a DK that paid for his first flying mount by selling overpriced eggs during the Winterveil event.

Know your quest rewards. Remember that addon showing the vendor price for things? Know which rewards are going to be useful and plan to sell everything else (so pick the reward that has the best vendor price).

Know the calendar. Buying behavior on the AH can be influenced by events in real life as well as in game events. On my current server, I get the best prices Wednesday through Friday. On the weekend, the AH is flooded with stuff and that is often when I get the best deals. Changes to the game, patches and expansions, can also influence the market -- pay attention to them.

Know when to cut your losses. Generally it is a good idea to put something on the AH, but some things have higher fees. It is possible to cost yourself money by holding out for a slightly higher price, and then having to post something more than once.

Understand timing. There are times when the RNG and the AH conspire against you. Just when you get a lucky drop, you go to the AH and see six more up there. If you have bank space, you may be better off banking your item and trying to move it later. This is most applicable to things like pets and BoEs, but it can be extended to other things. There are times someone will dump a load of stuff (hopefully not because someone's guild bank just got hacked) and throw the AH off. Winterveil will come and you'll get some gifts; a red helper box may sell better a few months down the road.

Don't do this. Bandages become less effective as you level and they don't give you a buff. Conversely, food becomes more effective as you level and gives increasingly effective buffs.

Yeah, in the end first aid is really just a monumental waste of cloth that isn't very useful long term. For the amount of money you could have gotten in cloth you could have bought far more food.

With that said, I always level my first aid. I'm OCD about it. Economically and practically though, its a money sink.

Just a note on inscription - be careful, as someone said, about the market. It's extremely fickle. A glyph that's on the AH at 40g one day might be 5g the next day. You need to be extremely patient and prepared to spend a lot of time if you want to make significant money from glyphs. I gave up because, sadly, I'm just too impatient.

On the other hand, I find it works to bulk buy Cataclysm herbs when they're cheap, turn them into Darkmoon cards, turn those into trinkets when the Faire is around, then wait a week or so after the Faire ends and sell the trinkets on the AH. Of course, you need the right level of inscription and a bit of money to invest if you're going to do that.

Really it's about knowing the price of things and how they sell. It also helps having a number of toons with different professions. Gathering professions is worthwhile on a first toon, but the key to really make money is to have crafting toons. You maximize the amount of time per gold rather than spending time running around mining, skinning, and herbing.

Recently how I've made some money is by doing what they call the Jewelcrafting Shuffle. What it is I buy high level ore cheap and prospect it. Any rare gems I get, I cut and sell on the AH or sell uncut based on the market or bank if the market is low that day. Any uncommon gems I get, I craft into Jewelery or in the case of Carnelians , I make Carnelian Spikes. Zephyrites are useless outside of putting up on the AH on days of the daily. From there I send everything I crafted from my JC to my enchanter who DEs everything. If I get some blue items while crafting, I get some Heavenly Shards here and there, but mostly I get Hypnotic Dust and Greater Celestial Essence. From there I list on the AH. Essentially I'm taking ore that may cost 50g a stack and buying 10-20 stacks at a time and getting products that will sell for 3,000g or more. And that's minor compared to what some gold goblins do.

Really it's about reading the market and seeing what's high cost and how you can get it to sell yourself for as cheaply as possible. It's also about reading trends and expecting what will happen next. With epic gems expected to hit the game somewhere down the road for this expansion, if it holds true to how WotLK's gems worked, Jewelcrafters and Alchemists can expect to make a lot of money. My plan is to have about 3-4 alchemists by that time, all transmute specced, that will be able to transmute epic gems. With the potential to having 4-20 gems made each day depending on procs. Even if you don't have alchemists, many expect Pyrite ore to be like Titanium Ore and be prospected into epic gems and some are buying up ore to prepare for such.

Overall, the best tip for making gold is Patience. People that need to make gold right now are more likely to spend that gold right now. Meaning they are probably selling their products for less and/or buying items that are much higher then they are worth due to inflated value. Look how fast the BoE weapons from Firelands have dropped in price as an example. If you can learn to wait, you will learn to avoid doing quick sells and sell items 50% their worth and make more money per item you sell.

Fish. You can fish max level fish with a skill of 1 from pools. Highland guppies are going for 15g *each* on my server.

On the topic of bandages, if you plan on doing PvP, First Aid is a great tool that can be used to turn the tides of some fights, so if you can, just use the cloth from dungeons and mobs in general.

I make people think I'm a 12-year-old girl from Ukraine. They pay me gold just to chat with me.

What? Smiley: um

Yeah, but when people find out that it's normal for a 12-year-old viking girl to be married and capable of slitting someone's throat in the bed, they back away.

1) Don't spend money on the AH. Your leveling gear doesn't matter. Whatever you get as quest rewards and drops will be fine.
2) If you are interested in short-term, get two gathering profs (such as mining and skinning). They will give you a constant moderate supply of gold.
3) If you are interested in long-term, level up a crafting profession to max. It costs time and money in the short run, but eventually it can give you a nice income.
4) Summary: Either make money from your professions, or get an addon to buy low and sell high on the AH.
5) Hang in there. I struggled for gold with my first toon, too, but once you get an 85 with maxxed-out professions, you'll never have to worry about gold ever again.
