Maybe you subconsciously hacked the game like a boss o.o

I believe characters automatically learn certain flight points after reaching certain levels. I've noticed this with several of my characters, too. I'm not sure when this started happening, but I'm inclined to say right around the release of Cataclysm.

I noticed this after 4.2 came out. I remember being annoyed at all the extra running around I had to do to get to other places to level since I was gaining levels too quickly to actually finish any content in a zone. I can only assume it's because of that reason that you pick up more flight paths as you go along. It just speeds things up.

I thought this was happening now. Wasn't sure if I was just losing my mind, or what. Another one of those undocumented changes, I guess.

no WONDER my lowby Hunter got a "you have discovered..." message when I landed at a flightmaster! I thought "how can I have 'discovered' this zone if I already have the FP???"

Its funny. Seems to be about two weeks now. Some flight paths you just seem to "know", but others have to be learned in the old way. I haven't figured out any difference, except that the magic paths seem to be more frequent around racial capitols.

I've always wondered about this from a practical perspective.

Level 80 who's explored the world: "I'd like a ride to Stranglethorn, my good man!"
Stormwind flight master: "Sure thing. My gryphon knows the way. Off you go!"

30 seconds later...

Level 10 newbie who's never been out of Elwynn: "I'd like a ride to Stranglethorn, my good man!"
Stormwind flight master: "Sorry kid. I don't know how to get you there and my gryphon has amnesia."

???

I'm glad to hear it's not just me misremembering things I've done on alts that I don't play much. I was running my lowbie Warrior through a few instances the other night and while I did run him down through Silverpine to pick up the flight paths on the way to SFK, I found that he somehow had all of the flight paths in Azshara (where he's never been) and Ashenvale (where he's also never been) plus the Emerald Sanctuary path in Felwood which is many levels too high for his level 21 self.

It was nice not having to ride on a slow mount all the way from Mor'shan Rampart where I knew I had the FP to BFD but it really did puzzle me as to how I had so many FPs that I knew I hadn't gotten the normal way.

While I didn't have the flight paths in Silverpine (the masters all had the green ! over them), it's possible that if I had gone to UC first after getting off the Zep, that they may have shown up for him anyways. I shall have to check this on another character, I think.

although, technically isn't it more like:

Level 10 newbie who's never been out of Elwynn: "I'd like a ride to Stranglethorn, my good man!"

Stormwind flight master: "Sorry kid. You don't know how to get there, and I'm not lending you one of my prize taxi-birds just so you can go and get lost over the ocean and drown... along with my prized taxi-bird!"

Next thing you know they'll be replacing gryphons with map travel like Guild Wars...

don't know about learning extra flight paths automatically as you advance (apart from IoQD which is learned at 70 I think), but every new character starts with all flightpaths in all starting areas. Quite different from before, when you only had your own race's capital by default.

my level 55 Mage got to Blasted lands, and had to learn the first flightpath in the zone, however, when she got to the new flightpath on the other side of the zone (the new area, on the coast), there was no "!" on the flightmaster, and no message that she had learned a new flightpath.

New twist last night. My hunter hit L50 and I retired to Thunder Bluff to hit various trainers. I also used the Orgrimmar battle board to pck up the Un'Goro quests, then used my hearthstone to return to Gadgetzan, my working base. I figured I'd have to fly to Southern Tanaris then giddyup down to Marshall's Stand. instead, there was a flight path - that was not there previously.

almost like its being leaked to us on a 'need-to-know' basis.
